The main courses of college physical education major: basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills in pedagogy, psychology, human science, school physical education, physical exercise, training and competition. All of them have been trained in sports science research and mastered the basic ability to engage in school sports work.

Early physical education colleges (such as Danish Gymnastics Teachers College established by 1804, Royal Swedish Central Gymnastics College established by 18 14, and German Central Gymnastics Teachers College established by 1848) almost all trained physical education teachers, which was considered as a "physical education" major at that time.
