Schools in the Five Emperors period were mainly used for military education, mobilization and sacrifice. After the Five Emperors period, the Xia Dynasty was born, and schools began to take shape, which were called "Preface" and "School" respectively. "Preface" is the place for aristocratic education, and "school" is the place for civilian education.
The advanced schools in the Western Zhou Dynasty were called Bi Yong, Cheng Jun, Shang Yang, Xu Dong and Zhe Zong respectively. Among them, "Bi Yong" is the most respected. There is a famous school called Pangong in the vassal state. Every twenty-five schools at the lower level have "family studies" and every five hundred schools have "sequence studies".
The highest-ranking school in the Han Dynasty was called imperial academy, and the schools below imperial academy were East School, South School, West School and North School. In Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, "imperial academy" was also called "Guo Zi School"; In the Northern Qi Dynasty, it was called "Guo Zi Temple". In the Sui Dynasty, Yang Di renamed "Guo Zi Temple" as "imperial academy".
Since then, the name of "imperial academy" has been used until the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but later it was called "imperial academy", which was not a school of previous nature, but a department that implemented education management. As for various schools, they are called "academies", "study rooms" and "private schools" respectively.
