The Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University (formerly Shanghai Second Medical University) is one of the pilot universities officially approved by the Ministry of Education to carry out modern distance education on February 22, 2002. On July 18, 2005, Shanghai Second Medical University and Shanghai Jiaotong University merged to form the new Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. The former Distance Education College of Shanghai Second Medical University was renamed as "School of Medicine, Online Education College of Shanghai Jiaotong University". On March 201August 12, the Medical College of Online Education College of Shanghai Jiaotong University merged with the Medical College of Continuing Education College of Shanghai Jiaotong University to form the new School of Continuing Education of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
