Fujian Ship Administration School, founded in 1866, is the first modern naval school in China and the birthplace of modern maritime education and naval education in China. The school was founded by Zuo and was established in Fuzhou on 1866 under the auspices of Shen Baozhen, Minister of Shipping. When it was first built, it was called Qiushitang Art Bureau. 1867 after the completion of mawei shipyard, it was moved to Mawei and renamed as the ship administration school.
Fujian Ship Administration School is divided into two schools. The former faction is the manufacturing faction, also known as the "French faction". The purpose is to train talents in shipbuilding and design, and the main specialty is shipbuilding. Courses include French, basic mathematics, analytic geometry, calculus, physics, mechanics, shipbuilding, steam engine manufacturing and so on.

The background of Fujian Ship Administration School;
Since 1842 Opium War, the reality that China lags behind the West in science and technology has gradually become obvious. The view that we must learn western technology to achieve "learning from foreigners to control foreigners" is gradually recognized by the ruling and opposition parties. The Westernization Movement of learning Western technology began to rise in the early years of Tongzhi (1860s). 1866, Zuo, then governor of Fujian and Zhejiang, was allowed to set up a shipping bureau in Fuzhou, Fujian, to manufacture ships and related artillery and other ordnance.
In the same year, Zuo was transferred from Shaanxi to Gansu, and Shen Baozhen was appointed Minister of Shipping. Fujian Ship Administration chose Mawei as the base, built docks and related naval facilities, and hired craftsmen and teachers from Europe to build ships. While building a shipbuilding base, Shen Baozhen also attaches great importance to training ship administration and naval personnel.
