The way of combining worship and educational places is the combination of temple and learning, which refers to the activities of China in ancient times to worship Confucius in school, that is, the "combination of temple and learning" described by people in the Song Dynasty and summarized by later generations. Confucius was engaged in education all his life, and after his death, he also formed an indissoluble bond with the school. He has been respected as a teacher for generations and is the originator of education.
The temple dedicated to him is also located in the school. There are thousands of Confucius Temples in China, only the Confucius Temples in Qufu, Shandong Province and Qufu, Zhejiang Province are home temples, and the rest of the Confucius Temples, including those in previous dynasties, are "the integration of temples and learning".
background
Before the restoration of the Confucius Temple, Gong Xue had a ceremony of offering sacrifices to teachers and sages. "Zhou Li Chun Guan" records: "When entering school, you must explain the food ceremony to the teacher." "Book of Rites Wang Wenshizi" records: "As far as learning is concerned, the spring official is released by his sages and teachers, and it is also in autumn and winter." In the second year after Confucius' death (478 BC), his bedroom was regarded as a "temple" by his disciples, in which Confucius' "clothes, crowns, pianos, cars and books" were enshrined every year. The descendants of Confucius "carry on the family line, learn from each other, regard themselves as teachers and friends", and learn the culture of rites and music in the Confucius Temple. Learning is in the temple, and there is learning in the temple, and the "integration of temple and learning" is beginning to appear.
