On April 1986, the Fourth Session of the Sixth National People's Congress deliberated and passed the Compulsory Education Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), which came into effect on July 1986. On June 29th, 2006, the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) deliberated and passed the new Compulsory Education Law. This is a major revision of the current compulsory education law since the promulgation of 1986. The newly revised Compulsory Education Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) came into effect on September 6th, 2006.
