In the past ten years, Shaoguan has become a representative of poverty in Guangdong, and its GDP is higher than Qingyuan. Qingyuan is close to Guangzhou, and the local municipal party committee and government are more capable and energetic, pushing Qingyuan to a new level and the economy developing steadily. They are working hard to introduce Guangzhou's subway into Qingyuan, promote the development of local transportation network and strengthen the connection between Qingyuan and Guangzhou. So it has surpassed Shaoguan in 2008.
