Nanjing Art Institute, referred to as "Nanyi", is located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of People's Republic of China (PRC) (China) and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province.

It is the only comprehensive art college in Jiangsu Province, and the earliest independent art institution in China. Ranked first among the six major art colleges in China, and its comprehensive strength ranked first in the country.

It has been selected into the national-level talent training mode innovation experimental zone, the national-level characteristic specialty construction project, the "Two Million Plan" of the Ministry of Education, the collaborative innovation center of cultural creativity of universities in Jiangsu Province, the dominant discipline construction project of universities in Jiangsu Province, and the first batch of new key high-end think tanks in Jiangsu Province.

Nanyi gave birth to the earliest art school system in China, initiated the earliest university disciplines such as art, music, dance, theory and drama in China, and was the founder of modern higher art education in China.

1952, in the adjustment of national colleges and universities, it merged with the Fine Arts Department and Music Department of Sheqiao Shandong University in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province to form East China Art College.

1958 East China Art College moved to Nanjing Dingjiaqiao; In June of the same year, it was renamed Nanjing Art College; 1959 was renamed Nanjing Art Institute, and 1967 moved to No.5, Huju North Road, Nanjing.

1978 was approved as the first batch of universities in China to recruit graduate students, and 1986 was awarded the right to confer doctoral degrees.

As of June, 20021year, the school is located in the main urban area of Nanjing, covering an area of more than 700 mu and a school building area of 300,000 square meters. There are 14 secondary colleges and 39 undergraduate majors.
