Xu Shoushang was born in a small business family in Shaoxing. In his early years, he studied in Shaoxing Chinese and Western School and Hangzhou Qiushi Academy, with excellent results and won the praise of teachers. /kloc-in the autumn of 0/902, Zhejiang officials sent them to study in Japan and went to Hong Wen College in Tokyo to study Japanese. This was one of the important documents of the bourgeois old-democratic revolutionary movement at that time.

Together with Lu Xun and others, he United and improved teachers and students, actively advocated science, attached importance to science and technology and labor, and fought resolutely against Xia Zhenwu, the successor supervisor and feudal die-hards, and won the battle of "papaya". At the beginning of 1925, the famous "tide of female teachers" broke out in Beijing, and Xu Shoushang and Qi Shoushan jointly published the declaration of Zhang, the director of education, in Beijing Daily. After the dissolution of Women's Normal University, Xu Shoushang resolutely served as president and provost, rented the school building in Mao Jing Hutong and resumed classes. In April of the same year, Lu Xun founded Mangyuan Weekly, and Xu Shoushang actively wrote articles for the magazine, and successively published several battle essays in the column of Patriotism, encouraging progressive students to attack the old ideas and forces. The following year, the "March 12th" tragedy occurred, and Liu Hezhen, Yang Dequn and other progressive students were massacred by the warlord government. He held back his grief and presided over all the funerals at great risk. Soon, together with Lu Xun, he was wanted by Beiyang warlords and had to return to China to take refuge.
1927 was hired to teach at Zhongshan university in Guangdong province, teaching pedagogy and western history. After the "April 12th" counter-revolutionary coup, he resigned with Lu Xun because of his ineffective rescue of the arrested students. In June 5438+10 of the same year, Cai Yuanpei founded the university as the dean, and he was hired as the secretary-general. The following year, he served as the director of the secretariat of Academia Sinica. Cai Yuanpei handles most of his daily affairs.
