Nanchang No.3 Middle School was founded in 1902 (the 28th year of Guangxu). Its predecessor was Lilian Hongdu Middle School in nine counties of Nanchang (Nanchang, Xinjian, Fengxin, Jinxian, Jing 'an, Wuning, Tonggu, Xiushui and Fengcheng), and it was renamed from Hongdu College in Nanchang.
