In the early days of the founding of New China, we established five colleges of politics and law, and four other colleges set up law departments. These departments are often collectively referred to as "five schools and four departments", which represent the ranking of law schools to some extent. The "Five Institutes" are now China University of Political Science and Law Q, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, northwest university of politics and law, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and East China University of Political Science and Law Q "Four Departments" are Peking University Law Department and Renmin University of China Law Department.

The law departments of Jilin University and Wuhan University were transformed into law schools. In addition to these nine schools, a considerable number of schools have set up law majors. The results of the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education show that China Renmin University and China University of Political Science and Law were rated as A+, five schools including Peking University and Tsinghua University were rated as A, and seven schools including university of international business and economics and Jilin University were rated as A-.

Law is a science about law, and its research objects include law and legal phenomena and their regularity. At present, the major Q of law in China mainly includes law (03010/k), intellectual property (030 102T), prison science (030 103T), credit risk management and legal prevention and control Q (030 104T). Among them, law is the basic major, the professional code with letters is the ad hoc major Q, and the professional code with letters K is the national control distribution major. At present, most universities offering law majors are law majors.
