Taiyuan generally refers to Taiyuan City. Taiyuan, referred to as "bοng", was called Jinyang in ancient times, also known as Bingzhou and Longcheng. It is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital and I-type big city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province. It is an important central city in the central region determined by the State Council and an industrial base focusing on energy and heavy chemical industry. The total area is 6988 square kilometers.
