Shanghai Nanhui Middle School was founded in 1927, located in the southeast corner of Nanhui Ancient City. 1946 was renamed Nanhui simple normal school, 1954 was renamed Nanhui county middle school, 1962 was renamed key middle school, and in 2000 it was renamed Shanghai Nanhui middle school.

After the Spring Festival in 2003, the Shanghai Municipal Committee decided to build four more boarding key high schools.
