"English" originated in England. Theoretically, British English is authentic English. British English sounds deep, wise, reserved, elegant, noble and textured.
In fact, American English occupies an equally important position. Hollywood is the world's film production base. Don't most actors speak American English when shooting international blockbusters? Wall Street in new york is the financial center of the world. Isn't American English also spoken in international business communication?
American English and British English have brought the cultural output of their respective countries, and also unconsciously changed our English word selection, spelling, English pronunciation and language expression habits.
Learning British English or American English depends on your starting point.
Exam? International exchange? Daily communication?
As far as specific inspection is concerned:
The TOEFL test is sponsored by the United States, and the recording must have been seen by Americans.
IELTS is sponsored by Britain, and the listening part is read by British people.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) means "International English Language Testing System", and its proposition will not focus on the unique content of British English.
English one and English two for postgraduate entrance examination are organized by the examination center of the Ministry of Education. Just kidding, it's Chinglish.
One is to examine the basic knowledge of language, such as vocabulary and grammar, and the other is to examine reading comprehension. The content of the text is academic and formal, but it does not involve the professional knowledge of a single subject. Similarly, it does not favor the English of a certain country, that is, it does not deliberately use idioms and slang unique to a certain country. Most of the reading materials are from British and American official books. If it was written by an Englishman, there might be more elements of British English. Similarly, if books come from America, there may be American English. In translation and writing, of course, it depends on your own English language ability.
As far as international communication is concerned:
Since the early 1980s, two or three generations have been scrambling to take the TOEFL to the United States. Naturally, learning American English in China has become a popular trend, but this does not mean that the influence of British English is weak. Many people take IELTS and go to developed countries in Europe. They are attracted by the long-standing culture of Europe. The official language is mostly English, so there is no doubt that they prefer British English.
On official occasions in China, our English is biased towards British English in both pronunciation and written expression.
Of course, whether learning British English or American English requires accurate pronunciation, and dialogue with native speakers is the most direct and effective way.
English learning environment is fundamental. Some friends ask themselves and answer questions at home, so it is very important to have a good language environment. But when you have an English-speaking partner, I believe it is not difficult for you to speak fluent English.
Oral English learning, dialogue and communication with native English speakers are the fastest ways to improve. Practicing topics with native English speakers is the best way to improve intonation and pronunciation, and then speaking more natural sentences is more authentic. If you have a good grammar foundation, it will be of great help to writing.
Tao Xingzhi said that life is education.
Language learning is like this. What kind of language environment will naturally form what kind of expression habits, accent is only a small part of it.
