The role of male cats in reproduction is mainly mating. Male cats usually don't take care of kittens after they are born. However, in some special cases, male cats may also take part in caring for kittens, but this is not common.
So kittens usually follow their mothers because they can provide better care and protection. The mother cat will teach the kitten how to use the litter box, hunting skills and social skills. When the kitten grows up, it will gradually become independent and get rid of the care of the mother cat.
