On Xunzi's Progressive Teaching
Xunzi is one of the representatives of Confucian school. When learning and understanding his "incremental" learning method, it can't help but be linked with cultivating children's habits. Many of them are worth learning from.

The so-called "accumulation" means that individuals constantly accept external influences; The so-called "gradual progress" means that the outside world exerts a continuous role on individuals. This "influence" and "function" not only comes from all aspects of our society, but also comes from the strength given to us by our teachers, parents and peers. It has become an inestimable "external cause" in the process of children's habit formation.

In the specific way of "accumulation", Xunzi advocated-

First, the product is miniature.

He said that most people ignore small things and like big things, but they are often not as good as those who pay attention to small things. This is because small things often happen, and many a mickle makes a mickle. Great events rarely happen, but the accumulation becomes smaller. A king is a person who can start from small things and cherish every day, so he succeeded. Xunzi advocated gradual efforts, rather than trying to reach heaven in one step. He cited examples from daily life to show that a good horse like Huiji can only take ten steps in one jump, and he can catch up with him if he persists in walking for ten days. If you try to carve something, stop, even a rotten piece of wood will be carved continuously. If you keep doing it, even the stone will be carved through. It can be seen that "accumulation" is the correct way to win.

This truth is easy to understand. It tells us that children's good habits lie in the dribs and drabs of life; Don't aim too high, keep your feet on the ground, one step at a time. One day, a drop of water became a pearl and sand became gold.

Second, for a long time.

Learning is to change one's nature through every slight progress. A prerequisite for a small increase is perseverance, which Xunzi called "accumulation over time." He said: "I really saved my strength for a long time, so I entered." As long as you practice sincerely and work hard for a long time, what you have learned will become a habit. Reading is to do "accumulation" kung fu.

"Persistence is victory!" A familiar word, a classic thought-provoking word, also embodies the truth of "accumulate over a long period" Habits cannot be formed overnight. Only by long-term unremitting efforts can we achieve the effect of "sneaking into the night with the wind and moistening things silently".

Third, single-mindedness.

Xunzi also believes that accumulation must also be single-minded in the direction, "and (specialized) one but not the other, so it becomes a product." If the goals are scattered, if you accumulate one thing today and one thing tomorrow, you will only accomplish nothing if you chop and change. He advocates that both teachers' teaching and students' learning should be single-minded, that is, "learning to be excellent is to be an official", "a gentleman teaches and his disciples learn", and "knowing more without relatives, knowing more without being able, knowing without being harmonious".

When cultivating and correcting children's habits, don't fish for three days and dry the net for two days, and don't hit the hammer for a while, which will confuse children. Look at the most important thing, step by step, step by step, and slowly guide and encourage, and children will find the right direction, see the goal, and get better and better on the road of progress!
