What do the long and short horizontal lines and shapes in the meta-analysis forest map represent respectively? This is the problem we need to solve in this issue: reading forest map with meta-analysis.

This paper takes the forest map in the meta-analysis of the efficacy and safety of insulin combined with low molecular weight heparin in the treatment of hyperlipidemia acute pancreatitis as an example, interprets the forest map in the meta-analysis and analyzes the research significance represented by each part.

First, the specific meaning of each part

Second, the meta-analysis of forest map interpretation

Taking the literature as an example, the author points out:

Five studies [9, 12- 13, 15- 16] were included in the recovery period of gastrointestinal function. Heterogeneity test results show that there is heterogeneity among studies, and further subgroup analysis shows that there is still heterogeneity among groups, so random effect model is used to carry out combined effects.

Compared with low molecular weight heparin alone, the recovery time of gastrointestinal function in the combined group was MD =- 1.42, 95% CI:-2.71~-0.13, P = 0.03.

Compared with insulin alone, the recovery time of gastrointestinal function was MD =- 1.67, 95% CI:-2.59 ~-0.75, P = 0.0004.

Compared with routine, the recovery time of gastrointestinal function MD =-3.54, 95% CI:-4.89 ~-2. 19, P < 0.000 0 1, as shown in Figure 5.

The results of this study show that the total effective rate of patients in the combined experimental group is significantly higher than that in the control group, and it also has obvious effects on reducing TG and inflammatory indexes (CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α), shortening the recovery time of gastrointestinal function and hospitalization time. (Meta-analysis of forest map interpretation)

MD is the difference between the average value of the experimental group and the average value of the control group, that is, MD is the difference of the average value. It is suitable for the average difference of the same measurement method or unit and the same dimension.

In order to calculate MD, we need to know the mean, standard deviation and sample size of each study. MD can be used in various research types, in which when MD=0, there is no difference; When MD

In the above study, after the joint effect analysis of the experimental group and the control group, MD is obviously located on the left side, so it is concluded that:

Shortening the recovery time of gastrointestinal function and hospitalization time also has obvious effects.

Third, meta-analysis forest meta-interpretation and answering questions

1 Q: The weight of the fourth study reached 83.6%. Does it mean that my meta is of little significance? (Meta-analysis of forest map interpretation)

1 A: the weight is great because of the large sample size, and both smd and md can be used for research. Just report the results truthfully.

Q: The indicators are heterogeneous. How to determine the cause of heterogeneity? (Meta-analysis of forest map interpretation)

A: Ideally, heterogeneity is gone. Subgroup analysis can explore the source of heterogeneity, and the heterogeneity of the two groups decreases after subgroup analysis, which shows that subgroup is the source of heterogeneity.

Q: The two documents searched are the same, but the results are different. Should I include two documents or select only one of them? (Meta-analysis of forest map interpretation)

A: Meta-analysis is objective and should be based on the outcome indicators you need. If the result indicators of these two documents need to be analyzed and the documents meet the inclusion criteria, they need to be included, and they cannot be selected according to their own wishes. Well, if necessary, split it in half.

Q: meta of the influence of A combined with B on endoscopic surgery, A has control and B has control. When analyzing, the combination of A and B is compared with the control group, so is the control group a and B, A and B, or A and B? (Meta-analysis of forest map interpretation)

A: Looking at the control group used in the original studies A and B, the intervention measures of A and B must be both A and B. ..
