The ship's working departments are divided into deck department, engine department and service department, with captain positions respectively. The deck department has first mate, second mate, third mate and sailors on duty; The engine department has chief engineer, chief engineer, chief engineer and mechanic on duty; The service department has waiters, chefs, second chefs and waiters.

Different positions have different requirements. If you have no experience in working on a ship and have not received relevant vocational education and training in navigation, you can work as a sailor on duty, a mechanic on duty and a service department.

If you want to be a sailor, you must first attend the competency training for sailors on duty.

To apply for competency training for seafarers on duty, three conditions must be met:

Being in good health and meeting the basic requirements of seafarers;

Junior high school education or above.

After completing the training and passing the examination by the maritime administrative agency, bring the training certificate and professional training certificate of the crew on duty and their copies, the application form for the service book, the two-inch bareheaded photo with a white background and the copy of my ID card to the crew management department of the Maritime Safety Administration for handling the crew service book.

If you apply for a sailor on duty in the unlimited navigation area, you need to apply for a seaman's card for you by the shipping company you signed. Then contact the unit to get on board for probation, and after six months of probation, apply to the crew management department of the Maritime Safety Administration for the Certificate of Competency for Seafarers on Duty with relevant documents.

After getting the certificate of competency, you can be a sailor on duty on board. If you want to apply for an officer, you need to participate in relevant professional training and obtain a professional qualification certificate.
