The total length of the advanced writing part of BEC is 1 hour 10 minute. The volume consists of two topics, each of which contains clear hints about the purpose and object of writing. The first part requires students to write a short report. In the second part, students can choose 1 from three topics: report, proposal and business letter. The first part accounts for one third of the total score, and the second part accounts for two thirds.
In order to show the language ability that meets the advanced level requirements of BEC, there is little language input in this part of the topic description, so students need to have relatively more background knowledge in order to write articles with sufficient content and fluent words. In order to avoid the unfairness caused by some students' lack of background knowledge in a certain field, students can choose L from three topics: report, proposal and letter, all of which have sufficient and specific written information about the task background.
