Wuhan Institute of Shipbuilding Technology, founded in 1950, is one of the earliest national defense and military colleges in People's Republic of China (PRC). During its development, it was renamed Zhongxiang Cadre School, No.212 Technical School, Hubei Institute of Technology, Hubei Institute of Machinery Industry, Wuhan Machinery Industry School and Wuhan Shipbuilding Industry School. 1998 was approved as a higher vocational college by the former State Education Commission.
