From 65438 to 0968, Qi Faren was transferred to the Institute of Space Technology to participate in the development of China's first artificial satellite. As the technical director of the first satellite "Dongfanghong" 1, he experienced the whole process of development and launch, and reported the satellite development and launch preparations to the Central Special Committee headed by Premier Zhou Enlai for many times. This is the most unforgettable thing in his life.
1 in April, 1970, China's preparations for launching the "Dongfanghong" satellite1were basically ready, just waiting for the central government to give the order. The day before the launch of 10, Qi Faren and Qian Xuesen rushed back to Beijing from Jiuquan launch base and reported to Premier Zhou in the Great Hall of the People. He is responsible for reporting the test results and quality of satellites. Premier Zhou asked, "Do you think satellites can be unreliable? Can satellites accurately track people? " At the same time, I also asked whether the satellite can play the music of Dongfanghong, the orbit parameters of the satellite, the weight of the satellite, and what space physical parameters can be measured. Qi Faren gave a positive answer to the quality of the satellite. Premier Zhou said: "It seems that all preparations have been done well." He asked Qi Faren to write a formal written report together with Ren Xinmin and Yang Nansheng, technical directors of Long March 1 launch vehicle. According to the quality of the satellite under development and the simulation test results, Qi Faren confidently drafted the first draft of the satellite report that night. After all, this is China's first satellite. Without any experience to follow, Qi Faren was still too nervous to sleep all night. However, 10 days later,1April 24, 970, the music of Dongfanghong resounded through space and spread all over the world. Qi Faren later recalled: "This is the happiest moment in my life!" Qi Faren, 37, showed his wisdom and talent in the field of satellite technology.
After 1975, Qi Faren successively served as the chief designer of "Dongfanghong" 2 and "Dongfanghong" 2 A communication satellites. After nearly 10 years of development, the first geostationary orbit communication satellite was developed. On one occasion, when the satellite was detected, the three lamps on the transponder were burned out one after another, and Qi Faren was very anxious, because once the satellite was in the sky, the transponder could not relay TV programs once it failed. Qi Faren asked for careful inspection, and it was found that it was caused by aging of components. After replacement, there will be no tube burning phenomenon. Qi Faren's strict requirements ensured the normal operation of the1April 8, 984 satellite. After the satellite was fixed, digital and analog telephones, fax, TV and radio program transmission, data processing and transmission were opened. In particular, people in border areas can watch programs transmitted by CCTV through their own satellites. Qi Faren is not satisfied with this. He immediately considered the improvement of key technologies of communication satellites in the next step, and then formulated the design scheme of "Dongfanghong" No.2 A communication satellite. This scheme increases the number of transponders, communication capacity and service life of satellites. February 1986, 1, the "Dongfanghong" 2 A communication satellite was launched, and the fixed-point maintenance accuracy of the satellite was five times higher than that of the experimental communication satellite, marking that China's geosynchronous satellite measurement and control technology has entered the advanced ranks in the world. After the satellite was put into use, the TV population coverage rate only increased from 30% to over 80%, and more than 500 large and medium-sized cities across the country opened long-distance automatic dial-up telephones. 1On March 7th, 988, Qi Faren and his research team launched another practical communication satellite "Dongfanghong -2A" over the equator of 36,000m. Its design life has increased to four and a half years, and its communication capacity has doubled. Because this satellite uses a shaped beam antenna, the radiation power is mainly concentrated in China, and the signal is significantly enhanced than that of the international communication satellite; The TV images transmitted by satellite are clear, vivid in color and pure in sound. Even in distant frontiers and islands, you can see clear TV programs as long as you build a ground receiving station with an antenna diameter of 3 to 4.5 meters. This makes the era of China renting satellites for communication transmission a thing of the past.
Just as the communication satellite technology developed by Qi Faren became more and more mature, and he was the chief designer of the new generation communication satellite "Dongfanghong" No.3, he was transferred to the post of chief designer of manned spacecraft. 1992, the "92 1" manned spaceflight project was launched, and Qi Faren also took up a new post. In the stage of spacecraft demonstration, experts from all sides have different views on what kind of spacecraft to choose, and people from all walks of life hold their own opinions and have heated debates. Qi Faren presided over the overall scheme demonstration, listened carefully to opinions from all sides, made full use of strengths and avoided weaknesses, and put forward an advanced and feasible engineering scheme suitable for China's national conditions. After the scheme was determined, many new problems kept appearing. Qi Faren, who has been the chief designer of communication satellites for many years, knows that the biggest difference from developing satellites is that the spacecraft is related to the lives of astronauts, and every system and every link must be absolutely safe and reliable. He once visited the launch of Russian manned spacecraft and saw with his own eyes that before the astronauts entered the spacecraft, the chief designer solemnly signed a letter of commitment and said to the astronauts seriously and humorously, "If you are not sure, I will not send you to heaven to take risks." Qi Faren didn't expect that when he was nearly sixty years old, he would have to take great pressure and take the greatest risks to lead the construction of a safe and reliable spaceship, and he would also sign a pledge for the China astronauts in the near future.
China's Shenzhou spacecraft has more than 600 sets of equipment, hundreds of computers and controllers, hundreds of thousands of software programs,100000 components,10000 kilometers of cables and 80000 contacts, which is equivalent to the workload of two large satellites. Qi Faren not only knows everything, but also has a careful plan to ensure quality and progress. After seven years' efforts, the Shenzhou experimental spacecraft made its first flight successfully. After entering the new century, shenzhou spaceship has successfully launched and recovered three times in a row. Qi Faren's greatest wish is to see shenzhou spaceship send our astronauts to soar in space and let his life draw a brilliant trajectory in space.
