The play was re-created by Wang Zhaogan, a famous playwright in Anqing City, based on the traditional play "Double Rescue" dictated by folk artists. It premiered on 1958 and was a great success. From 65438 to 0959, famous artists starred in the colorful opera film "Female Xu", which caused a sensation again. 1986 Anqing Huangmei Opera Troupe rehearsed the play again, starring Han Zaifen and other outstanding young actors. In the same year, the play was filmed into four episodes of traditional Chinese opera and TV series, which aroused strong repercussions throughout the country and won the Golden Eagle Award of the fifth popular TV in the following year.

The story of Ma Xu is: Feng Suzhen and Li Zhaoting have loved each other since childhood, and their mother is the master of engagement. Later, the Li family declined and his mother died. Su Zhen's stepmother hated poverty and loved wealth, so she forced Li Zhaoting to dissolve her marriage. Forced to dress up as a man and go to Beijing to find her brother Feng, and take the exam in her name. Unexpectedly, I won the first prize and was recruited as Xu. On their wedding night, Su Zhen told the princess the truth. The emperor was forced by the situation, pardoned Su Zhen, and ordered Li Zhaoting to be the top scholar and marry Su Zhen. The princess also married Feng, who changed her name to patrol eight houses.
