Under this background, perfecting the general practitioner system, training general practitioners and giving full play to their roles are conducive to fully implementing the policy of putting prevention first and making medical and health services better serve people's health. According to the international standard of 5 to 6 general practitioners per 10,000 residents, China needs at least 700,000 general practitioners. However, there are only 209,000 registered general practitioners in China, which means that there is a big gap, but it also means that there is huge room for development.
