I have kept several nests of bees, and I can't develop them after changing them into living frames. What is the reason?
I. Main problems

1. Crossing the box blindly

There are many beekeepers in China who are keen on beekeeping. After seeing that the live frame culture has achieved good economic benefits, they are eager to achieve success. Without knowing anything about the knowledge of Chinese bee breeding, we blindly changed our own bees to live frame breeding, and the result failed because of improper methods and lack of management.

2. Feeding management is not in place

Raising Chinese bees requires certain professional knowledge as well as raising western bees, but most Chinese bees raised by indigenous methods are farmers and don't know much about bees. They just accidentally received a few groups of wild Chinese bees, looking for a few barrels and letting them develop naturally. Although this primitive feeding method is backward and the product yield is low, the bee colony often develops smoothly because it adapts to the biological characteristics of Chinese bees. However, after changing to live frame feeding, it is necessary to carry out scientific feeding management for bees. Such as the arrangement of beehives, the inspection of bees, the separation of bees, the collection of honey, etc. , all need certain skills and methods. Some beekeepers blindly group bees in order to expand the scale of bee farms, regardless of the strength of bee colonies. In this way, the strong bee colony is divided into weak bee colonies, which not only affects the yield, but also weakens the stress resistance of the bee colony after forming the weak bee colony, making it prone to diseases and increasing the mortality rate. As a result, the colonies divided first and then merged, which caused heavy losses.

3. Diseases and insect hazards

The pests and diseases of Chinese bees are mainly nest worms, ants and larval diseases. Almost all beekeepers in China have no habit of epidemic prevention and disinfection, and have no experience in disease prevention and control because of the transition from indigenous breeding to live frame breeding. So bees are often helpless when they are sick. Although some people do their best to prevent and treat it, they often fail to develop or even cross the field because of improper methods or delayed treatment.

4. Be invaded by western bees

In some China bee breeding areas, there are western bees around, which will produce stolen bees, especially when there is no big brown honey source. When Chinese and western bees steal from each other, the western bees can effectively protect themselves, but the Chinese bees have no choice but to let the western bees drive straight in until they steal the hive. Some beekeepers don't know why Chinese and western bees can't be mixed. Keep Chinese bees when there are western bees around, or don't know how to avoid them when there are wild western bees around the bee season. As a result, the Chinese bees that were unconsciously raised disappeared, and I don't know why. In fact, it is the reason why there are west bees around.

fly away

In fact, the reason for flying is also a variety of factors caused by inadequate feeding management: for example, insufficient external honey powder sources; The feed supply in the nest is insufficient; The group potential is too weak; In hot summer, the hive is exposed to the sun; In spring and autumn, it is attacked by cold wind and disturbed by smoke and noise. Long-term rainy weather outside caused the nest to be damp, and the newly replaced beehive smelled bad or the old beehive had holes and gaps, the old nest spleen, diseases, nest insects, ants, bee thieves and so on. And there are genetic factors of bee species. But in the final analysis, it is caused by inadequate feeding management. In particular, the exposure of hives in the sun is the most easily overlooked. There are many beekeepers whose bees fly away frequently, often without finding the reason. In fact, it is caused by not shading.

6. The method of bee colony wintering is incorrect.

Many beekeepers in China are doing well in late autumn, but after wintering, there are often few bees left, mainly because of incorrect methods. After collecting honey in autumn, Chinese bees raised by indigenous methods are eliminated and need not be fed. However, after the application of live frame feeding, some beekeepers failed to grasp the time when feeding overwintering feed, and fed it too late, which increased the burden on bees and the feed could not be fully transformed. Some beekeepers in China live through the winter regardless of the group potential, which leads to the freezing of weak groups.

Second, some matters needing attention in keeping Chinese bees

1. Master feeding management technology.

This is the premise of raising Chinese bees. Beekeepers who raise Chinese bees by indigenous methods must never keep Chinese bees in boxes without knowing anything about them. It is necessary to consult the local master with mature live frame breeding technology in advance and practice deeply until the whole production process of Chinese bees is mastered, and then frame breeding is carried out. Even the breeder who keeps the western bee should not blindly rummage through the closet. Because of the different physiological habits of Chinese and western bees, blindly following the management model of western bees will eventually lead to failure. Therefore, before starting to raise Chinese bees, it is best to go to the Chinese bee farm for a period of time.

Watch the box.

Bees also have certain technical requirements when passing through boxes. Before passing the box, it is necessary to know whether the local natural conditions such as honey source vegetation and climate characteristics are suitable, and whether there are western bees within the surrounding 12 km, especially the farmers who introduced bees. This is a prerequisite for the success of Chinese bees. Secondly, be familiar with the technical essentials of Chinese bees before passing through the box. The best way is to have a master who keeps Chinese bees around to help you box, or participate in professional training, to avoid blindly box-crossing without knowing anything, causing undue losses.

3. Strengthen feeding management

China bees have formed their own unique physiological habits in the long-term evolution process. After packaging, you can't be indifferent to the traditional beekeeping methods, and you can't check it as often as you keep western bees. We should manage Chinese bees according to their living habits. For example, bees should be inspected according to different external conditions and different periods. Generally, only when honey is flowing and when necessary, it is necessary to open the box for comprehensive inspection, and the number of inspections should not be too many. At other times, especially when honey is cut off, don't check it completely, otherwise it will disturb the normal life order of bees and cause them to steal and fly away.

4. Prevention and treatment of diseases

The life habits of Chinese bees have changed to a certain extent after passing through the box. With the increase of feeding density, the incidence of bee diseases increases accordingly. Therefore, after living frame feeding, we must strengthen the prevention and treatment of bee diseases, disinfect beehives and bee machines regularly, and take preventive drugs in different seasons according to the occurrence of local bee diseases to prevent problems before they happen.

Correct wintering

Different regions should feed the overwintering feed timely according to the local climatic conditions, so that bees can have sufficient time to change the feed. Before overwintering, we should organize strong groups and merge small groups, and the group potential should be more than 3 frames. The wintering place should be in a leeward, dry and quiet place. Do a good job of keeping the bees warm and sunscreen, and let the bees calm down. There is no special reason not to open the box during the winter.

In a word, keeping Chinese bees alive is a highly technical job, and it can't be raised casually. We need to adopt scientific management methods on the basis of comprehensive understanding of Chinese bees, so as to raise Chinese bees well and obtain good economic benefits.
