The steel structure design and research center began the steel structure design of the new Baiyun International Airport in 2000. The center team has successively completed the steel structure design of airports such as New Baiyun International Airport Phase I and Phase II and Jieyang Chaoshan Airport, and the steel structure design of Kunming South Railway Station, Xiangxiang and Xiangxi 10 railway stations. Steel structure design of 2008 Beijing Olympic Bicycle Gymnasium, Guangzhou Asian Games Bicycle Gymnasium, Shenzhen Longgang Bicycle Gymnasium, Guangzhou Universiade Gymnasium, Zengcheng Rugby Gymnasium, and steel structure design of Zhongshan Expo Center, Shandong Jinan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Taishan Convention and Exhibition Center, Liaocheng Convention and Exhibition Center, Zhuhai Hengqin Xingyi Wenchuang Tiandi and other large-span and large-space convention and exhibition centers.

The center has won nearly 80 international, national, provincial and municipal awards in the field of steel structure design. Among them: Baiyun Airport Project won the first prize of Guangdong Excellent Engineering Design in 2005, the National Excellent Design Gold Award, the first prize of Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award, the third prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Award and the British Institution of Engineers Award; The invention patent of "sliding ball hinge bearing with large pullout resistance" won the first prize of Science and Technology Award of Guangdong Civil Architecture Society; "Research and application of key technologies of long-span steel structure in Guangzhou University Town Center Stadium" won the first prize of Huaxia Construction Science and Technology Award.

The center has five national invention patents, such as "sliding ball hinge bearing with large pull-out resistance", "universal ball hinge bearing with locking and limiting structure" and "a box-shaped profiled steel plate joint without dislocation expansion joints", which has made positive contributions to GDAD's strategy of rejuvenating the hospital through science and technology.
