The predecessor of Shanghai Zhongshan Senior High School is Shanghai Zhongshan Middle School. Zhongshan Middle School, founded in June 1967, is a complete middle school. In July 2000, with the approval of the Municipal Education Commission, Zhongshan Middle School was revoked and transformed into Zhongshan Senior Middle School.
The school covers an area of 13439 square meters, and the building area of the school building is 10786 square meters. Indoor and outdoor sports venues cover an area of 4,446 square meters. The school is shaded by trees and has an elegant environment. The fifth floor of the main building of the teaching building is equipped with a physics and chemistry laboratory, a language lab, a microcomputer room, an art room, an audio-visual classroom, a dance room, a multi-function hall, a multimedia classroom, a library, a clinic, a psychological consultation room, an 800-square-meter gymnasium and a 200-meter circular runway artificial lawn playground.
The current principal, party branch secretary and vice principal Fu are all high school teachers. There are 76 faculty members in the school, and middle and senior teachers account for 73% of the total number of teachers. The school has 16 classes, with a total of 755 students. In the autumn of 2000, six classes were registered.
The school's aviation (aerospace) model activities are one of the school's characteristics. In the past five years, the model airplane team has won medals in Shanghai and national competitions year after year, and has been rated as the key unit of national aviation (aerospace) model airplane activities, the member unit of Shanghai model airplane association, and the Hongkou District Science and Technology Characteristic School.
