Gong Yi 194 1 year-old was born, and 13-year-old studied piano. 1957 to 1966 studying guqin at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He studied piano with twelve musicians, and extensively studied the styles of many piano schools such as Guangling, Jinling, Fan Chuan, Zhucheng and Mei 'an. He used to be the head of Shanghai National Orchestra, the chairman of China Qin Hui, the doctoral tutor of China Academy of Art, and the master tutor of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Now he is a first-class performer and a representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage project (Guqin Art). Many students he has taught have now become professors in many conservatories.
