The Central Conservatory of Music, referred to as "Central Music", is located in the capital Beijing. Founded in 1949, the college is an institution of higher learning that trains high-level specialized music talents, directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), and is the only key construction institution among the "21/engineering" national art colleges.

The school was originally built in Qingmuguan 1940, Chongqing, and was demobilized in Nanjing after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. 1949 is a merger of the National Conservatory of Music (including kindergarten classes), the Music Department of the Northeast Lu Xun College of Literature and Art, the Music Department of the North China University College of Literature and Art, the Music Department of the National Peking Art Institute and the China Conservatory of Music in Shanghai and Hong Kong, located in Tianjin.
