How to teach dogs to shake hands with people

It is relatively easy to teach dogs to shake hands with people. For most dogs, it takes about one or two feedings to form basic movements. Here are the steps I took to train my dog to shake hands.

First of all, we must determine the password corresponding to the handshake. This password must be accurate and cannot be confused with the passwords of other actions or commands to be trained in the future, such as shaking hands. When training, the requirements of handshake instructions should be clear, and other auxiliary languages should be relatively weak, so as not to affect the main password. Then you can train in the following order: (1) When it is determined that it is hungry and particularly wants to eat, since it is a special study, it should always have something it likes to eat as a reward; (2) Find a place suitable for training, feed it a little first and raise your mood; (3) When he finished eating and kept a fixed posture, he began to guide the handshake: when he approached or touched the dog's front leg with his hand, he usually raised his leg. This is the prototype of handshake. When he shouts a handshake command, he will approach his front leg. If he lifts it, he can hold down his leg, then release it, and wait until he has fixed his posture before doing it again. If he raises his leg and waits during the practice, (4) when he has a clear impression of raising his leg, he no longer needs to touch or approach it with his hands, just shout the command of shaking hands. If it is released, take a reward and eat a little. If you don't lift it, you will scream a few more times. I really don't know when I lift my leg, I can call the command and make a touch action to guide. In this way, the time is short and the basic action of shaking hands should be formed.

After the handshake is formed, it needs to be strengthened. First, when you don't eat, you should train this action. Then, in the process of playing with it, you should constantly consolidate and strengthen it. When the action becomes very skilled, you should also train it to shake hands with you at a certain distance, so that it will slowly satisfy you.

1), you must first let the dog remember your call to it.

Call the dog's name before feeding the food. Such a name requires loud, compact and vivid syllables, not for listening, but for dogs to remember easily. Dogs will be attracted to food, but over time, they will remember their names.

2) Let the dog sit down in front of you-sit down.

Let the dog stand on the left side of the owner and give the password of "sitting". At the same time, the right hand lifts the collar and the left hand presses the dog's waist corner. When the dog is forced to sit down under this mechanical stimulus, then give it food as a reward. After repeated training, the dog can develop the action of sitting down (after completing all these instructions, the dog will think that food is an incentive, so as to firmly remember your instructions. )。 On this basis, combined with gestures for training. If you sit face to face, your right arm will be flat, your forearm will be vertical, and your palm will be "L" shaped forward. If you sit on your left, pat your left abdomen with your left hand. If the dog can "sit" well, it should be gradually trained to extend the sitting time, from being able to sit for 3 to 5 seconds until it is extended to more than 5 minutes.

3) After learning to "sit", you can train the puppy to "get down". -Lie down

During training, two methods can be adopted: first, the owner is on the right side of the dog, facing it, holding food in his right hand, slowly moving downward from the top of his mouth, and at the same time giving a "down" command, pulling the leash downward to give stimulation. At this time, under the stimulation of food and machinery, the dog will make the action of getting down. When the dog "falls down", it will reward food in time. In the future, with the formation of conditioned reflex, rewards and stimuli will be gradually cancelled. Another way is to let the dog sit down, the owner should squat down, hold the dog's two forelimbs with both hands and stretch forward. If the dog makes an "upside down" action, food reward should be given at this time. If your dog doesn't want to, here? ; Get down, you have to help it finish. Grab its front legs and stretch forward, gently pressing its body to the ground. When he finally "comes down", praise him for touching his head, and repeat this action repeatedly to strengthen the dog's impression until he remembers it. In the future, the dog should be trained in gestures within a certain distance (left arm drooping, palm forward, palm down, and waving up and down) to improve its action level, extend the command distance, and stick to the prone position for more than 5 minutes according to the owner's password and gestures.

4) Learn to "stay" again. -Still so.

You use gestures and language to tell it to "stay". At this time, you don't have to stay away from your dog. You just want to see if the dog can stop moving when you leave. If the dog doesn't leave its original position, you should go back and encourage it, give it some food, touch its neck and shoulders, and let the dog see your admiring expression. You know, dogs can't understand you at all, even the smartest dogs can't understand you. If sometimes you think dogs are "considerate", it's only because? It remembers the way you praised it. On the contrary, if you find the dog moving after you leave, you should immediately go back and repeat the training just now, and tell the dog with your expression and body language that people are very dissatisfied with its performance just now. Repeatedly, the dog can understand the true meaning of "staying". In the future, you can slowly extend the time and distance of leaving, and the dog will gradually get used to waiting for you to finish things before coming back.

5) Stand:-Stand up

During training, the shilling dog sits down, then gently lifts the leash and gives the command and gesture of "standing" (the right arm extends in the direction of the dog and the palm is up). When the dog stands up, it will be rewarded. The master should gradually leave his side and let him stand longer. On this basis, gradually develop the ability to stand by gestures or passwords for a certain period of time.

6), "handshake"

Act on the basis of "standing". When training, the owner stands opposite the dog, first gives the password of "standing", and when it stands firm, gives the password of "shaking hands", and at the same time grabs the dog's forelimbs with one hand and swings up and down. After repeated several times, give touch and food rewards. Then keep your distance from the dog, and don't use your hand to assist when issuing the password. If it can't be done, repeat it several times until it can be done. At the beginning of training, you can add some simple gestures, but you should prevent the dog from making mistakes in gestures? Primitive conditioning. When the action is very stable, as long as the password of "shaking hands" is issued, a series of reflex activities such as standing and bowing will be completed in one go, and there is no need to issue the password twice.

* * Note: Dogs should be trained in an undisturbed open space so that they can concentrate on their studies. Practice one at a time for fifteen minutes every day. After learning an action, take off the chain rope and practice it again. You can't teach the next one until you are satisfied.

Remember, don't punish the dog when he does something wrong or doesn't listen to instructions. On the contrary, as soon as he does something right, he will touch his head and praise him. He will be more obedient, because encouragement can never be too much.
