Enlightenment from Western Industrial History
The Morgan era of North American industry (1880~ 1920) is an important period in the history of western industrial development. The market competition and industrial structure adjustment in this period have important reference significance for the development of our pharmaceutical industry today. At that time, the pattern of industrial competition was low-level repeated construction, numerous manufacturers, vicious competition, price war, chaotic market order, and manufacturers in the industry were struggling to survive.
The American pharmaceutical industry has also experienced this process of industrial restructuring. 19 At the end of the 20th century, the number of pharmaceutical enterprises in the United States once reached more than 3,000. In the following 20~30 years, nearly half of pharmaceutical enterprises withdrew from the market. After a century of market competition and mergers and acquisitions, the structure of American pharmaceutical industry has been constantly adjusted, optimized and upgraded, and the market concentration has been greatly improved. Today, there are only a few hundred pharmaceutical companies in the United States. They are either multinational pharmaceutical enterprise groups with strong competitiveness or high-tech biopharmaceutical enterprises with specialized and characteristic development.
