First, normal students

Normal students refer to students and graduates majoring in normal education in colleges and universities. Their major belongs to pedagogy, and their future employment goal is to engage in teaching in schools or educational institutions at all levels, which is the preparation for future teachers. Under the planned economy system, the tuition, package distribution, "iron rice bowl" and cadre status of normal college students are all covered by the state. In 2007, six normal universities under the Ministry tried out free education for normal students.

On August 18 and 10, the General Office of the State Council forwarded the measures for the implementation of free education for students in normal universities directly under the Ministry of Education and other departments, marking the upgrading of free education for normal students in China to "free education" in the new period. There are many normal students and related majors in normal universities, including Chinese language and literature, mathematics and applied mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, biological science, ideological and political education, history, geographical science and so on.

Science education, social education, computer science and technology, educational technology, pedagogy, psychology, physical education, musicology and fine arts. Nowadays, normal students are not limited to normal universities. Graduates from other non-normal universities can also become normal students if they pass the prescribed subjects and pass the examination. Normal students do not have to be teachers as their final occupation.

Second, the directional training of normal students

The directional training of normal students is a directional training plan for rural primary school teachers. Directed normal students, a more comprehensive name is the policy of "three orientations" to train rural primary school teachers. The so-called "three orientations" means "targeted enrollment, targeted training and targeted employment".

Directed normal students are measures and policies formulated by local governments to solve the shortage of teachers resources in rural areas, especially in remote and hard areas. The government funds the training of rural teachers. The policy of orienting normal students varies from place to place, but the basic "three orientations" are the same.
