Reading chapter: Chapter 16-2 1
Book content:
Five years later, I got tired of life in London and decided to stay in Paris for a while. The days in London are the same, just like a stagnant pool, nothing new.
We are like arranged trams, the starting point and the ending point are stipulated. This ordinary life is simply terrible, so I resolutely dealt with the unfinished business in London and made up my mind to throw myself into the arms of Paris at once.
After arriving in Paris and settling down, I set out to visit my friend Dirk Stroeve.
The image of Dirk Stroeve varies from person to person. When it comes to him, some people will show disdain, while others will show doubt. He was born like a joke. Although he is a painter, he doesn't paint very well.
After catching up with Dirk Stroeve, I asked him if he knew a painter, Charles Strickland. My friend not only knows Charles, but also thinks he is a great painter, even though Charles has not made any money from his paintings.
Dirk Stroeve and I agreed to take me to the cafe that Strickland went to every day the next night. We soon found a place. It's really interesting. I found that I had been to this cafe, the one where Strickland and I had absinthe five years ago.
Reading comprehension:
For me, life is nothing to be surprised about. He was afraid of this life at first sight, so I left London and went to Paris to look for another possibility.
For a person who is not satisfied with the status quo, a plain life may not be what he wants, especially as a writer, the richness of life is one of the sources of his works.
In fact, we can jump out of the novel and compare ourselves. It seems the same. We just live a single cycle day after day.
I want to change, but I can't seem to do it, and I don't have enough courage to jump out of my comfort zone and toss about in a strange field.
A person who dares to jump out of the status quo is also a person who knows his status quo and wants to change it. Only when he has an ideological understanding can he pay the price for his behavior, so he has to change to see a better scenery.
