The steps of handmade leather goods are leather cutting, leather surface and leather back treatment, bonding, punching, sewing, trimming and edge sealing. What kind of leather is suitable for specific handmade leather goods and how to do it? Let's learn about it in the article! 1. What kind of leather is suitable for making handmade leather?

Since it is handmade leather, the most basic raw material is of course leather, which is the fur wrapped outside the animal's body and becomes leather after tanning. Leather is tanned, which produces completely different texture and characteristics: the original rotten leather is processed into leather that can be preserved permanently, which is tanning; Vegetable tanning agent and chrome tanning with chrome powder are the two most common tanning methods at present.

For beginners, remember not to buy all kinds of chrome tanned leather and inexplicable leather for cheap. Beginners please buy hard vegetable tanned leather as leather! There are two opinions about buying. One is to buy cheap handmade leather, such as 9.9 kilograms of leather on a treasure, which doesn't hurt when worn out. The other is to buy good leather, which can make us treat it with care. Generally speaking, the latter can make our technology progress faster. It is also the choice of most people.

Second, how to make handmade leather goods?

1, skin cutting

(1) Cut out the pattern first and make a proof with cardboard, so that it won't go out of shape after painting.

(2) Draw on the leather with a special pen for leather. If the leather pen is not recommended for vegetable tanning leather, you can mark the leather with an awl or unwritten ballpoint pen.

(3) Cut the skin with a professional leather knife or art knife, scalpel and scissors (use a shaving blade if you don't want to spend rice). The key is to cut it neatly, otherwise it will affect the edge treatment at the back.

2. Treatment of leather surface and leather back

Coat the leather with maintenance oil. Vegetable tanned leather has cow hoof oil, and ordinary leather can be cleaned as long as it is clean. Coat the leather back with thin CMC and scrape it off, or scrape it off with a plastic triangular ruler. Change it if you can. Just have fun. After the maintenance oil and CMC are dry, the initial bonding begins.

Step 3 bond

(1) Some skins need double bonding, such as covers. Many common adhesives can be bonded. I use 80 1 super glue, and white glue can also be used instead.

(2) Temporary bonding, that is, bonding with double-sided tape, only plays a positioning role. The two layers of leather are perforated together, which is easy to slide off and will be torn off after perforation.

Step 4 punch holes

(1) Draw a needle at the place to be sewn to ensure that the hole will not be skewed. (unwritten ballpoint pen for vegetable tanning leather, special pen for ordinary leather. Remember to erase the silver handwriting with a cleaning pen after punching. )

(2) Diamond cutting-Punches (available in online stores) have various teeth, and beginners only need 6 teeth (or 4 teeth), 2 teeth, 1 tooth (or use a diamond cone instead).

(3) The diamond chop must be vertical, and the beating strength should be even, otherwise both sides are irregular when the skin is thick.

Step 5 sew

Sewing thread, vegetable tanned leather can use special hemp thread for leather, ordinary leather is not recommended to use hemp thread, because hemp thread is too hard, acrylic thread can be used. Measure the thread to an appropriate length (about 3 times the length to be sewn+thread hanging part). The needle goes through both ends of the thread and sews back and forth.

6, finishing

After sewing, check the edges again and make corrections to ensure that the edges are exactly the same.

7. Edge sealing
