He believes that the mission of art education in colleges and universities is not to cultivate professional or professional artists, but to maintain and develop students' perceptual quality. It is an education to promote the harmonious development of students' sensibility and rationality, not to cultivate a few high flyers with artistic expertise, but to pay attention to the popularization of art education. Tianjin University is a university that is good at science and engineering. The implementation of art education aims to change the utilitarian professional education tradition of attaching importance to knowledge inheritance, give students extensive humanistic care, and cultivate college students' innovative consciousness and ability.
During his 25 years in Tianjin University, he has been calling for strengthening humanistic spirit education. He has always regarded "cultivating Einstein who can play the violin" as the concept of school art education, always regarded the combination of two classes as the key to comprehensively improve students' artistic accomplishment, and always regarded discipline construction and art troupe development as the two key points of art education center work.
2. Practice and innovation
Comrade Ren Baoping is a pioneer in the practice of art education, and his numerous art education modes and practical means are the first in China.
(1) 1984, at the beginning of the implementation of the credit system in schools, the credit system was implemented in art courses, and art elective courses were the earliest in China. He firmly grasped the main channel of the first class, and widely offered art elective courses and art practice courses to improve students' artistic accomplishment. At present, the school has offered nearly 20 art elective courses, such as Basics of Music Appreciation, Basics of Reading Music and Music Theory, History of European Music, Appreciation and Comparison of World Classical Music, Art History of China and Appreciation of Famous Paintings in Past Dynasties. More than 30 art practice courses in nine categories, such as chorus and conductor, western orchestral instrument performance, keyboard performance, basic dance training, basic drama performance training, and basic painting and calligraphy skills and basic training, are selected by more than 3,000 students every year. The study of these courses has enabled the vast majority of students to grow from Ding Bai, which has no foundation in instrumental music or singing performance, to students who have initially mastered a skill in playing, singing or performing, and a considerable number of students have become outstanding artistic backbones active on the stage through continuous efforts. Even some students' own potential has been explored and cultivated, and they have grown into professional artistic talents.
(2) 1985, he renamed Tianjin University Art Troupe as "Beiyang Art Troupe", and built the first large-scale comprehensive student art troupe in colleges and universities in China, which expanded the coverage of art education and realized the transformation from cultivating artists to cultivating students' artistic literacy, which made many poor artists enter the hall of elegant art. Now, Beiyang Art Troupe, which has achieved fruitful results in school art education, From the initial more than 200 members, it has grown to more than 500 members and nearly 1,000 students. More than 30 internationally renowned musicians, including Chen Lechang, have served as instructors, and there are nine art houses, including orchestras, choirs, military orchestras, folk orchestras, dance troupes, folk troupes, music lovers' associations, Yue Opera Research Association and performance centers.
(3) 1985, the first college student culture and art festival in China. The university students' culture and art festival held once a year takes art lectures, cultural activities, performances by literary and art groups and concerts as the carrier. Now it has been successfully held for 23 sessions, becoming more and more systematic, standardized and tasteful. More than 500,000 students participated in 1000 colorful art activities, and the "College Students Culture and Art Festival" which lasted for three months became an artistic feast for students. Since then, colleges and universities have followed this way of developing art popularization education, and the National College Students' Culture and Art Festival and Tianjin College Students' Culture and Art Festival have also been launched.
(4) From 65438 to 0997, the form of weekend concert was initiated in China and became a new exploration of art education. Over the past eleven years, more than 400 "Weekend Concerts" held at a fixed time and place every week have been successfully held, attracting nearly 200,000 student audiences. In the "weekend concert", in addition to the wonderful performances of the students' art clubs in the school, famous art groups from home and abroad such as the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as famous domestic professional groups such as the Central Song and Dance Theatre and the Central Conservatory of Music also came to the campus one after another. Famous Canadian violinist Zhang Zhang, famous violinists Sheng Zhongguo and Liu Yuxi, and famous crosstalk artist Jiang Baolin also came to perform in our school. The charm of classical music and artists deeply infected the students, but also greatly improved the level and level of school art education, so that elegant art really achieved "high" and "harmony" on the campus of Tianjin University. From June 5 to February 2000, the Ministry of Education awarded Tianjin University the honorary title of "National Advanced Unit of Art Education" and designated the weekend concert of Tianjin University as one of the three modes of art education in colleges and universities.

Take the lead in leading college art troupes abroad in China, which not only promotes elegant culture and popularizes elegant art, but also allows students to share the latest achievements of world cultural and artistic development and promote the internationalization of school art education. Over the years, Beiyang Art Troupe has been to Malaysia, Busan, South Korea and other places to participate in international competitions or exchange performances. At the same time, many famous foreign art groups were invited to Tianjin University, such as the American Philharmonic Orchestra, the American Watson University Wind Orchestra and the American Texas Kincaid Wind Orchestra, which not only brought wonderful performances to the students, but also promoted cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, broadened their world horizons and enhanced their understanding of the world's advanced culture.
(6) 1995, Beiyang Chorus pioneered the performance of non-professional art groups in colleges and universities in Beijing Concert Hall. In recent years, Beiyang Art Troupe has also performed in Tianjin Concert Hall for many times. Performing in the concert hall is an artistic "mountain" in the hearts of students. Climbing this mountain has greatly aroused the enthusiasm of students and improved the artistic performance level of the school.
From 2006, the Beiyang Eight-member Group won the eighth place in the country by participating in the CCTV National Young Singers TV Grand Prix, and in 2008, Tianda Choir won the eighth place in the country by participating in the CCTV National Young Singers TV Grand Prix, with perfect comprehensive quality and perfect performance. Tianjin University's chorus literacy and comprehensive quality education have been recognized by national TV viewers and famous musicians, and its art groups have created the best results of non-art colleges in CCTV competitions.
As an explorer of art education in similar colleges, Comrade Ren Baoping promoted the development of art education in Tianjin and even the whole country. For example, when colleges and universities all over the country are carrying out aerobics learning, we have begun to introduce rhythmic gymnastics training; When all the universities in China are carrying out mass singing, we have begun to accept the influence of elegant chorus art. He advocates elegant music with clear direction, insists on creating a campus cultural atmosphere with activities that purify the human soul and are full of educational significance, and makes students' scientific thinking take off with the help of artistic wings.
3. Brilliant achievements
(1) Outstanding teaching achievements
As the backbone teacher of art education in this school, Comrade Ren Baoping has offered basic music theory, solfeggio, chorus conductor, chorus research and chorus representative works, band training and other courses for the school art troupe and ordinary college students since 1984. Every year, more than 300 people choose courses in each course. The chorus class he opened and taught was rated as an excellent course in the whole school. In the past twenty-four years, nearly ten thousand Beiyang students have learned music knowledge and improved their artistic accomplishment through these elective courses. Through the course, a group of ordinary college students who have reached the professional level of chorus conductor in music colleges have been trained, such as Zheng Can (1995 World University Architecture Competition, the only prize in Asia-Pacific). At the same time, Comrade Ren Baoping used art theory to guide practice, and organized our students to participate in mass performances and competitions of college students in Tianjin, the whole country and even the whole world, and achieved excellent results.

Since the establishment of Beiyang Art Troupe, Comrade Ren Baoping, as the main person in charge, has undertaken the heavy responsibility of team building, taking the Art Troupe as his home and doing his best for the development of the Art Troupe. In the past twenty-three years, Beiyang Art Troupe has received tens of thousands of Beiyang students to study and develop here around the purpose of "educating people with art and educating people with aesthetic education". Most of them have no foundation of instrumental music or singing performance, and gradually grow into excellent artistic backbones and student cadres. The Art Troupe insists on carrying forward the main theme of the times, pursuing elegant music and exploring different art categories. Through the in-depth art education of various art forms, the students' artistic accomplishment has been improved, their interest and understanding of elegant music have been cultivated, and a good campus cultural atmosphere has been created, which has effectively promoted the development of mass cultural activities in the whole school and become a banner of campus spiritual civilization construction. Over the past 25 years, he has led the student art troupe to create outstanding achievements in international and domestic competitions and exchange activities.
On the basis of the construction and development of the Art Troupe, Comrade Ren Baoping takes art education as his own responsibility, strives for school support in many ways, and strives for social sponsorship of college students' art activities through many channels. With his hard and fruitful work, he has made unremitting efforts for the development of school campus culture and the construction of national first-class art education base. 1995 was sponsored by Taiwan Province Shuang Yan Musical Instrument Company for more than 100,000 yuan. With the continuous improvement of the school's art education level, Comrade Ren Baoping led students out of the school to the society and participated in social and cultural activities with high-level artistic performances. Tianjin Olympic countdown celebration, Yongtai Hung Hom Midsummer Voice of Nature Chorus Concert, Haihe Elbe River Sino-German Youth Chorus Concert, Beiyang Art Troupe Shandong Behavior Factory and community sent wonderful cultural programs.
