Xi Electric Power College was formerly known as Xi Electric Power School, which was established in 1953. 1980 was established as a national key secondary specialized school by the Ministry of Education, and 1994 was upgraded to junior college. In 2007, the Ministry of Education evaluated the talent training level of higher vocational colleges as excellent, and in 2008, it became the project unit of Shaanxi Provincial Model Higher Vocational College Construction Plan. The school undertakes the dual responsibilities of talent construction and general higher vocational education of State Grid Corporation of China and State Grid Shaanxi Company. It is the only electric power higher vocational college in northwest China and enjoys the reputation of "Northwest Electric Power Huangpu".

The school covers a total area of 404.40 mu, and the total construction area of the teaching building is163,500 square meters. It has 153 training (experiment) rooms for power grid operation, power marketing, relay protection, substation maintenance, etc., and has 100 jobs unique to the power industry authorized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China, and 92 job skills appraisal qualifications authorized by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security.

In recent years, around the national policy and the development strategy of State Grid Corporation of China, the school takes serving the local economic and social development and power grid development as its own responsibility, aiming at creating a "first-class" higher vocational college with distinctive characteristics, highlighting the school-running characteristics of "grounding gas and school-enterprise integration to educate people", innovating the talent training mode of "school-enterprise cooperation", perfecting the curriculum system based on working process or typical tasks, and striving to explore the integration of production and education with China characteristics in the new era.

Nine majors were rated as provincial key majors, four majors were listed as provincial first-class professional training projects, eight courses were rated as provincial quality courses, and three teaching teams were recognized as teaching teams of colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province. Six teachers were successively rated as famous teachers in colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province, 1 teacher was rated as a model of teaching and educating people in Shaanxi Province, and 1 teacher was rated as a model of higher education teachers in Shaanxi Province. Students have won many awards in the national mathematical modeling competition for college students, electronic design competition, China-Australia cooperative education skill competition and other competitions.

The school's achievements have been highly recognized by the national power industry, the State Grid Corporation system and all walks of life. In 2007, it was recognized as the training base of high-skilled talents in the power industry by China Electric Power Enterprise Federation, and became the project unit of Shaanxi Demonstration Higher Vocational College Construction Plan in 2008, the training base of high-skilled talents of State Grid Corporation in 20 10, and the national vocational skills training base awarded by the National Federation of Trade Unions in 20 12.

In 20 13, it was awarded the power industry simulation training base by China Electric Power Enterprise Federation, and won the advanced collective of State Grid Corporation in 20 10 and 20 16, the fifth national civilized unit in 20 17, the top 50 national enterprise universities in 20 18, 2020. It has successively become the training center of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Co., Ltd., State Grid Corporation xi Branch Technical College and other institutions. The results of college entrance examination rank in the forefront of Shaanxi higher vocational colleges year after year, and the employment rate of graduates is also among the best, which has delivered tens of thousands of outstanding employees for the development of the national power industry.
