This year marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It is a special day for leaders at all levels and alumni from all walks of life to return to the Party, review the past and look forward to the future. The ancients said: Stand at thirty. For an institution of higher learning, although 30 years is not a long time, just like people, after 30 years of accumulation, not only will they accumulate relatively rich and valuable experience, but they will also have a lot of life feelings and sentiments. I tell a true story about how I gradually evolved into a modern "amphibian" through six years' study in graduate education system and three years' work in the Academy of Social Sciences.

1990 master's degree in different fronts. After 8-9 years' interruption, I went to school to take my PhD exam again. The reasons are as follows: On the one hand, I have been wandering in business for 8-9 years, and I am 32 years old. After the market economy baptism of 1992- 1998, I obviously feel that the original knowledge structure of pre-90 s students is obviously aging. On the other hand, I was interrupted in order to get a job when I graduated from the master's degree, but I never had the desire to pursue further studies. The third reason is the encouragement of my former father-in-law, Mr. Zhang Rende, an economics professor at Nankai University School of Economics. He encouraged me to pursue further studies, which will definitely help my future development. Mr. Zhang is a doctor of economics and returned from studying in the former Yugoslavia in the 1980s. He not only wrote many books in the fields of domestic political economics, world economics and property rights economics, but also made in-depth research in some fields, published influential professional articles and made great achievements. After he married his daughter on 1997-8, he often discussed with him issues of interest in the above fields, which was not only inspired by him, but also produced some * * * voices.

Actually, since 1998, I have taken the doctoral examination twice: 1998 and 1999. When I first took the doctor's exam, I prepared according to the questions and questions of the past years. Although some theories are a little rusty after eight years, I did well in the exams of world economy and English, especially in the English exam, which surpassed some candidates who had studied and worked in the United States, but the latter gave up halfway because the questions were not finished. However, as soon as I saw the topic in the Economics Principles exam, I knew it was different from previous years. So the result was that my grades in this subject were not satisfactory and I was not admitted. Afterwards, it is said that the school suddenly changed the question type because it missed the principle of economics, which objectively disrupted my original preparation for this subject. I'm not discouraged, but I'm going to take the exam again the next year.

Failure is the mother of success. 1999, drawing lessons from the last failure and preparing for the exam comprehensively. Of course, it is mainly the economic principle that failed last time. The success of this exam is that I have worked in a foreign company for many years, so I don't need to review my English because I often use it. This gives me more time to review the principles of economics and specialized courses. Therefore, the results of the three exams ranked in the top three, and of course they successfully entered the second interview, which is the interview. When I was informed of the interview, I knew it was time for me to show my talents, because I not only had a solid theoretical foundation, but also applied it vividly.

It is particularly worth mentioning that through the disparity and fierce enrollment ratio, I successfully defeated many students at school and returned to the Department of World Economics and Politics of the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to study for a doctorate in world economy, without having to review my English while working. I performed very well in the interview process that required English communication. I answered a series of questions from the examiner truthfully, integrated theory with practice, and answered difficult questions with the purpose of further study. Very clever, not only reflects my frankness, but also shows my desire to learn, which impressed all the reference people present. Yu Yongding, who was the examiner at that time, graduated from Niujing University with a doctor's degree in economics and was the director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and gave me a high evaluation. Finally, he said that my English level is "more than enough". After the opening ceremony, I called on other students to learn from me.

Another non-economics major candidate from Hubei entered the interview stage, although the written test scores also entered the top three. But during my interview, he was eliminated because he didn't show solid basic skills.

This shows that it is very important for candidates to have practical work experience, although some students stand in the ivory tower to take the doctoral exam, which has certain advantages, such as uninterrupted theoretical study and easy to get high marks in written tests. However, there are also some shortcomings. For example, because of their poor ability to integrate theory with practice, they are relatively weak in answering and dealing with urgent problems. My experience shows that when I finish my college studies, I don't have to continue my studies. You can adjust yourself intermittently and accumulate experience through work. There are many benefits. Personal mentality tends to be more peaceful, and the problem is more rational. With practical work experience, non-school students will have a thorough understanding of theoretical and practical problems, and of course they will have better ability to answer, resist stress and deal with emergency problems.

In recent years, with the expansion of enrollment, the post-80s graduates who are pampered and lack understanding of real life and work experience are obviously weak in decompression and compression when they are finally forced to enter a society challenged by the market economy. In many schools, students are depressed, have psychological barriers and some commit suicide. On the one hand, it shows that there are some drawbacks and problems in China's current education system, on the other hand, it also shows that modern candidates need to adjust themselves when accepting such an education system, how to choose and accept different education, and so on, in order to adapt to the social development law of survival of the fittest under the market economy conditions.

Second, the biggest gain of studying and working in the Academy of Social Sciences: Under the unique, flexible and advanced education system of the graduate school, I found more space to broaden my horizons, practice my basic skills and go international.

As mentioned in the first section, after the establishment of the graduate school, it experienced a period of "grass-roots nomadic" renting school buildings for eight years. After we settled in 1985, we enrolled in September 1987. Although we have trained a large number of outstanding talents and academic, political and professional backbones and elites for the party and the country, the narrow campus and backward school-running conditions still hinder the fulfillment of the sacred mission of the graduate school as the highest professional training base in the country to a certain extent. From September 65438 to September 0987, our freshmen still felt that the basic office, study and living conditions of the graduate school were still relatively weak, and there were many inconveniences. For example, the radius of study and life activities is very narrow, including going to Dashanzi Post Office to receive and send mail and parcels. However, there are also some unexpected benefits. Because the school occupies a relatively small area, has a relatively small activity radius, is far away from the urban area and has a relatively closed environment, which is very conducive to calming down and concentrating on study and research.

For us, graduate school is a big stage with higher goals and vision, longer mission, stronger autonomy, stronger self-discipline and management, and more knowledge absorption.

Graduate school has explored a successful way for scientific research institutions to hold graduate education. This is a different way of running a school from ordinary colleges and universities, and it is also a different mode of running a school from the graduate school of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The mode of running a graduate school is, in a word, "centralized running, separate teaching and unified management". The graduate school and the institutes of China Academy of Social Sciences have jointly created a postgraduate training mode and mechanism with the characteristics of China Academy of Social Sciences through the relatively concentrated study of public courses and professional basic courses for graduate students, and the two-stage training of specialized courses and tutors organized by various teaching departments and departments to engage in scientific research and write dissertations respectively. A prominent feature of this training mode and mechanism is the high teacher-student ratio, which is generally less than 1: 1. It is a typical "mentoring" elite training model. As a result, a series of characteristics that distinguish the graduate school of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences from ordinary colleges and universities are formed: First, students have more free development space and time, and can concentrate on their favorite academic research and devote themselves to developing their professional interests; Second, directly participate in or participate in scientific research projects hosted by tutors, so that you can enter the latest fields of academic research, understand the latest achievements of academic research, and get in touch with the latest theories and cutting-edge viewpoints of academic development from the beginning of graduate students; Thirdly, the ratio of tutor to student is high, which provides a unique condition for students to get more detailed guidance and precept from tutors.

Due to the small enrollment at that time, about 200 students, the school arranged economic films, political science and law international and literature, history and philosophy for the first students, and the dormitory was relatively concentrated and managed separately. Every week, in addition to the compulsory public courses in the graduate school, I have to meet my tutor in my own research institute, negotiate with my tutor on my favorite topics, and accept my tutor's "mentoring" advice. This relatively narrow and fixed humanistic environment is very beneficial for cultivating graduate students to think independently and focus on their favorite topics. After all, graduate education is not like ordinary undergraduate education.

Compared with modern factory education (for example, middle school, undergraduate and postgraduate education after large-scale enrollment expansion in some universities), this kind of "mentoring" education has many advantages: it can guide teachers to teach by example and get in touch with students at zero distance, which can not only break superstitions, but also cultivate and form students' personal professional ability, moral quality and will quality and enjoy them for life. My active and decent life, rigorous academic research, modest and peaceful attitude towards life, and low-key optimism are also closely related to my two mentors: Mr. Chen of the American Institute and Mr. Rong Dianxin of the Institute of World Economics and Politics. As described below, my other off-campus tutor, Professor Zhang Rende of Nankai University, also played a vital role or influence in the above-mentioned aspects during my 1997-2002 doctoral examination.

A very valuable educational arrangement is that students from different majors and departments can meet when attending public classes or listening to foreign lectures, which is very conducive to the comparison and understanding of cross-majors and mixed majors. Through mutual introduction and discussion, we can sometimes find overlapping topics, complement each other and make cross-disciplinary friends. For example, there used to be an English language training center jointly organized by China Academy of Social Sciences and UCLA, which was mainly taught by American English teachers at UCLA, and basically used English textbooks. As English is a compulsory course stipulated by the school, most students have participated in the training, which plays a considerable role in improving students' English language level and changing the situation that foreign language teaching was generally not high at that time, especially for students engaged in international film research, mastering English skillfully and conducting international exchanges is one of the very important basic tools.

Moreover, in the process of frequent communication and contact with students and alumni of many universities in China, such as Peking University, Tsinghua, National People's Congress, and China University of Science and Technology, we have not found how superior they are. Everyone's starting point is basically the same, and they get along well. In many ways, there are similar and identical situations. They learn from each other, learn from each other's strengths, learn from each other's strengths, and have an equal and ordinary contact process. In other words, the general feeling at that time was that as a person from Beijing Normal University, he was as proud as Peking University and Tsinghua, and there was not much difference. In the new platform of the Academy of Social Sciences, everyone has merged, and with a new sense of belonging and identity, they can no longer tell where they come from.

What can broaden our horizons most is that famous experts and scholars in some fields at home and abroad are often invited to the institute for academic exchanges, lectures and speeches. The graduate school also invites famous experts and scholars from some fields at home and abroad to do academic exchanges, lectures and lectures. Everybody listen at any time. I remember 1988, the school introduced Professor Klein, the Nobel laureate in economics, to give a lecture on world economy through the relationship between Pu Shan, director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics. The classroom was packed, and it was the first time that we witnessed and listened to such a world-famous figure giving us a lecture. Whether we understand or not, whether he speaks well or not, it is of course a great pride and honor for us students who have never seen or worshipped celebrities.

For me, the special humanistic care of graduate school played a considerable role in the formation and development of my later life path. As summarized by the school, the graduate school adheres to the correct direction of running a school, conscientiously implements the party's educational policy, and pays equal attention to teaching and educating people. She always puts what kind of people to train, how to train people and what the trained people do first. I remember when I first entered the school, as a Communist Youth League secretary, I organized students to discuss issues related to party building and party style under the leadership of the Communist Youth League Committee. In particular, the debate about who is more important to join the party in thought or organization has aroused fierce debate between teachers and students. As my major in university is political economy, I am very familiar with Marxist political science and economics, including reading many classic original works and articles such as Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory, some of which can be mastered and recited skillfully. Therefore, from the perspective of ideological belief, I always believe and firmly believe that joining the party ideologically is more important than joining the party organizationally. Because it is impossible for everyone to fully understand the pulse of * * * productism belief ideologically and theoretically, it is enough for ordinary party member to join the party organizationally as long as he has simple feelings, and not to be too demanding ideologically. At the same time, for some people, joining the party ideologically does not necessarily require joining the party organizationally. I've been staying outside the party. As a non-party member, I can still join the Party organizationally. Sometimes, the effect may be better.

It is through such a series of education and training mechanisms that the graduate students trained in our college have many special abilities different from those cultivated in ordinary colleges and universities, so that they have higher ability to engage in humanities and social science research and practical operation ability of economic and social development. Some of my personal experiences proved the enlightened attitude and humanistic care of the school leaders at that time.
