Cowpea planting technology and management
1. Cowpea planting techniques:

1, improved variety selection

Commonly used varieties are Zhixiang series, Yangxiang series, Nanjing Xingguang series, Dai Yanxiang, Qicunxiang, Bacunxiang and Dixiangdou.

2. Soil preparation for border preparation and base fertilizer application

Avoiding continuous cropping requires rotation for more than two years; After harvest, plough deeply for 20-30 cm, and apply 3000 kg of base fertilizer, 25-30 kg of calcium superphosphate, 50-75 kg of plant ash or chaff ash or 0/0-20 kg of potassium sulfate per mu.

3. Reasonable close planting

In early spring, cowpea should be planted before the first pair of real leaves are unfolded; Planting should master the principle of small planting and dry planting; When planting, plant two trees in each hole; Cowpea is mostly planted directly in summer and autumn, and the sowing amount per hole is 3-4 or 4-5; The planting density is 0.8- 1m, and the plant spacing is 0.26-0.33m m.

Second, the field management of cowpea:

1, field management of cowpea planting

It mainly includes: fertilizer and water management, plant regulation, setting support, temperature and humidity management, pruning and coring, harvesting and seed retention, etc.

2, pest control

Aphids: spray 40% dimethoate every 7- 10 days.

Bean borer: When cowpea blooms, dichlorvos is used 800 times, and sprayed once every 6- 10 days.

Cowpea coal mold: 50% carbendazim 1000 times solution or 50% thiophanate 1000 times solution can be sprayed for control.

Cowpea rust: spray 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder 1000 times or 65% zineb 500 times, once every 7- 10 days, and spray continuously for 2-3 times.
