(1) When cleaning the dust avoided by old mahogany furniture, the taboo is to be damp, so you can use a high-power blower or vacuum cleaner to blow away the floating dust and accumulated soil; Don't use wet towels.

(2) For modern garbage materials such as cement slurry, asphalt, chemical paint, etc. attached to parts, you can use physical means to clean them, or you can use a fine knife to scrape and polish them as much as possible, without using chemical agents.

(3) After deciding not to keep the original paint surface, you can brush it with a special brush. For stubborn dirt, you can add a little alkaline water prepared with edible alkali to clean it.

(4) For the glue, mud and other stains at the mortise and tenon, it needs to be soaked in hot water to be cleaned. Please be patient. Remember, washed old mahogany furniture needs to be dried in the shade for more than a week, otherwise it will swell when it meets water, and it will be difficult to recover the tenon after disassembly.

Step 3: Remove the paint.

(1) Use fine sandpaper to directly polish, and the hard part can be scraped with a knife. When the paint is removed, the original carved part cannot be destroyed. For example, after a long period of natural weathering, the legs of desk furniture are very fragile. Once worn away, it will become a permanent injury unless the leg is transformed into another type.

(2) For the corner position of furniture, first look at whether it is damaged. If so, find a suitable solution as soon as possible, and don't let it go.

The fourth step: patina.

(1) The purpose of grinding and removing burrs from the wood surface is to show the natural patina effect. Some people may not know much about patina. It refers to a layer of jade-like brightness formed on the surface of high-quality wood after long-term use. The more you use it, the brighter it gets. This trace of time is called patina.

(2) According to the restoration principle of collectors, try to keep the original patina and form a new patina effect as soon as possible. Therefore, if you burn wax on the surface of furniture, such as cypress and beech, after polishing, patina will appear in a short time, and the smoothness is not worse than hardwood furniture.
