The repertoire of Chengdu shadow play
Chengdu shadow play is inextricably linked with Sichuan opera, which can be divided into five types: Kunming, Gao, Hu, Dan and Deng. The musical instruments played during the performance are gong, drum, erhu, sanxian, suona and bangzi. The content of the performance includes historical dramas, myths and legends, classic works and humorous local plays of various dynasties. Artists have the saying that "there are 3,000 people in the Tang Dynasty, 800 people in the Song Dynasty, and the Three Kingdoms are endless".

There are many performances of the Three Kingdoms in traditional historical dramas, such as Heroes, Borrowing from the East Wind, Playing Huang Gai, Changbanpo and Gu Chenghui. In "Gu Chenghui", Guan Yu fought against it, performed wonderful martial arts moves, and finally cut off Cai's hands and fell cleanly. Divine dramas such as Romance of the Gods, Legend of the White Snake, The Journey to the West's Chen Xiang's Saving Mother, The Journey to the West's Leifeng Pagoda, Legend of the White Snake's Water-filled Golden Mountain, The Journey to the West's and The Journey to the West's Monkey King's Fight Pan are even more classic plays in shadow play. Lion Building, drunk at the gate of the mountain, Wu Song in the classic Water Margin, and the West Chamber are also wonderful. Modern dramas after the founding of the People's Republic of China include Cockfighting, Mr. Dong Guo and the Wolf, White-haired Girl, Red Scarf, Cockcrow at midnight, Fly and so on.

Chengdu Shadow Play is greatly influenced by Sichuan Opera, a local opera. There are many humorous shapes in shadow play, and there are more funny scenes than other places, which is very different from Laoting shadow play in the north. The "big and small brothers" in Laoting shadow play are also called "big slaps", and they only come out to entertain themselves at the intermission of each play, while Chengdu shadow play has a single scene, such as "Thieves Playing Ghosts", which tells one thing. [1] This play is very interesting and is one of the more representative shadow plays in Chengdu. There are also auspicious dramas such as Phoenix Terrace, Dou Yi and Cash Tree [2].
