The former International Business School of Shanghai University, formerly known as Shanghai International Studies University Branch, was founded in 1978. 1983 In May, Old Shanghai University was founded on the basis of Fudan University, Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Light Industry, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Law School and Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, and was renamed Shanghai University School of Foreign Languages. 1986 was renamed Shanghai University International Business School at the suggestion of former Shanghai Mayor Wang Daohan. 1993 In May, the former Shanghai University International Business School and the former Shanghai University Business School merged to form the Shanghai University International Business School. With the merger of 1994 four universities (Shanghai University of Technology, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Shanghai University and Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology) to form the new Shanghai University, the English Department and Japanese Department were separated from the former International Business School of Shanghai University and merged into the newly established School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai University to become English Department and Japanese Department. The Department of Foreign Languages of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, formerly known as the Foreign Language Training Department of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (specialized in training overseas personnel designated by the State Science and Technology Commission), was founded in 1964 and ceased in 1968. Some teachers have been transferred, and some teachers belong to the Foreign Languages Department under the Academic Affairs Office of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. 1986 established the Department of Foreign Languages of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, and 1992 changed its name to the Department of Foreign Languages of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, with English (English for Science and Technology) and Japanese majors. With the merger of 1994 four universities (Shanghai University of Technology, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Shanghai University and Shanghai Institute of Science and Technology) to form the new Shanghai University, the foreign languages department was merged into the newly established School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai University, the English (English for Science and Technology) major was changed to the second department of English, and the Japanese major was merged into the Japanese department. The school was located at No.20 Chengzhong Road, Jiading District, Shanghai before August 1999.
Teachers from the foreign language teaching and research departments of other colleges were basically merged into the foreign language teaching department of the college after the merger of the four schools.
1999 With the completion of the new campus of Shanghai University in August, all the colleges moved to the new campus, and the English Department I and the English Department II merged into the English Department.
