As the unified standard for the application of building information model in China is still in the preparatory stage, the definition of BIM in American National BIM Standard (NBIMS) is quoted here temporarily, which consists of three parts:
1.BIM is a digital expression of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility (construction project);
2.BIM is a knowledge resource shared by * *, and it is a process of sharing information about this facility in the whole life cycle from construction to demolition, providing a reliable basis for all decisions;
3. At different stages of the project, different stakeholders insert, extract, update and modify information in BIM to support and reflect the collaborative work of their respective responsibilities.
