By participating in the activities of the World Meteorological Organization and other United Nations agencies, the meteorological department of China took the lead in opening to the outside world, emancipating the mind, introducing advanced technology and equipment, and cultivating technical personnel, which promoted and accelerated the modernization of meteorological undertakings in China and made contributions to the sustained, rapid and healthy development of the national economy. Today, China has built a relatively advanced National Meteorological Center and National Satellite Meteorological Center, which have played a greater role in world weather watch. China Institute of Meteorological Sciences and National Climate Center have played an active role in the atmospheric science research of the World Meteorological Organization, especially in the study of global warming and climate change. China sent a large number of scientific and technological workers to participate in various activities and plans of the World Meteorological Organization, and held many large-scale international conferences in China. At the same time, China also trained a large number of scientific and technological talents from participating in the activities, which played an important role in the modernization of meteorological undertakings in China.
Through the technical cooperation program of the World Meteorological Organization, China has provided meteorological instruments and equipment assistance to nearly 60 developing countries, and organized 24 batches 120 of meteorological and hydrological department directors and senior officials from more than 20 developing countries and regions to visit China.
