Northeast Petroleum University (formerly known as Northeast Petroleum Institute and Daqing Petroleum Institute) is located in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, and was founded in 1960. It is a university that focuses on engineering, with the coordinated development of engineering, science, management, literature, economics, law, teaching and art. 1978 has been identified as one of the 88 national key universities. The school is a high-level university jointly established by Heilongjiang Province, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group Corporation, China Petrochemical Group Corporation and China Offshore Oil Corporation, and it is a key construction university in Heilongjiang Province.

The school has 67 undergraduate majors and 23 higher vocational majors. There are 27 first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites at the provincial level and above, including 6 national/kloc-0. There are 8 specialty construction sites with national characteristics, 1 national comprehensive reform pilot specialty, 6 national "excellent engineer education and training plan" pilot specialties, and 19 provincial key specialties. 13 passed the professional certification of engineering education and was approved to build two provincial modern industrial colleges.

During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, school teachers published a total of 3597 high-level papers, including SCIE papers 1.275, EI papers 1.465438 and 907 Chinese core journals. School teachers published 65 monographs and 63 textbooks, translated 1.
