Li Wenhao: I have been to Shenzhen twice and I like this city very much. It is very modern, neat, green and well managed. Did you come to Shenzhen this time to do something profound? Success and failure? Peking University, Nankai University and other five universities in China have made speeches and exchanges before.

Through communication, what do you find that the students of Shenzhen University care most about and communicate with you the most?

Li Wenhao: It mainly refers to the pressure of study, examination and employment, the pressure from parents, or the relationship with parents, and so on.

Many people know your entrepreneurial story and successful business experience. Anyway, what experience do you want to share with young people?

Li Wenhao: Success is caused by many factors, and failure is one of them. In fact, the topic of my speech is not my success, but my failure. Only failure can make me successful. One experience I want to tell students most is to listen to your inner voice, pursue your dreams, and try to solve two problems at the same time, because they will hinder your success.

First of all, if you want to succeed in business, you must take risks. Second, don't be afraid when you start a business or project. Because once you are afraid, your attention is not completely focused on what you need to do to succeed, and your mind is not clear enough to control all the factors.

Now some undergraduates choose to start their own businesses after graduation. What do you think of this?

Li Wenhao: This question suits me very well, because I have experienced it. 19 to 25 years old, working in a company. At the age of 25, I set up my own company. 1 year later, I failed. Many people think that failure is a bad thing, but it is a good thing for me, because I have learned from it. After the failure, I ran out of money and went back to work in a company. Three years later, I started my own computer training company, which was very successful. Four years later, I sold my shares and founded Wall Street English.

Some people can start a business as soon as they graduate. For some people, it is best to work in the company for two to three years after graduation and accumulate some work experience before starting a business. In 2006, Dell's boss invited me to meet him in Texas. He told me that he was a college student when he produced his first computer, so starting a business mainly depends on a person's personality.

If you have enough patience, you can work in a company first, learn some skills there, and then accumulate some experience, because when you are 28, you will be more mature than when you are 23. I started my business at the age of 29.

Do you have any good suggestions for students who want to start a business?

Li Wenhao: The idea of starting a business is simple, but the operation is very complicated. For example, you are a good salesman, but after you have your own company, you should not only know about sales, but also know something about finance, administration and technology, so you must understand the whole operation of the company. Of course, when I say to start a business after a company has accumulated some work experience, I don't mean that you have to stay in this company for 10 years, that is, about 3 to 5 years. There is a rule that the younger you start a business, the greater the risk you may take.

Another point is very important. Before starting a business, we must clearly realize that there are two possibilities for starting a business: success or failure. Before starting a business, you must think clearly about what to do if you fail, and be able to accept the reality of failure. Li Wenhao: I have an English friend. He married a Spanish wife. They have lived in China for ten years. At home, the father speaks English to the children, the mother speaks Spanish to the children, and their nanny in China speaks Chinese to the children. The child can speak English, Spanish and Chinese when he is five or six years old. It is best to learn a language in a natural environment.

Now there are many international schools in big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. I think sending children to an international school is the best choice if parents have the ability. This is better than sending them to English training institutions to learn English, because the language taught in international schools is English, and children can learn English in a more natural environment.

About studying abroad

Li Wenhao: I think the most important task of education for parents is to convey values to their children. When the child is still a teenager, his parents send him to a new environment, where the child will see and encounter many new problems. I think parents should keep their children around until 18 years old, because only in this way can they shape their values. I left my hometown when I was 20.

My advice to parents is that children can be sent to study in high school for a short time, from 15 to 17 years old, so that children can have the opportunity to contact foreign cultures. In my opinion, the best time to study abroad is university.

Li Wenhao: I don't think there's anything wrong with attending the training class, because they can learn something. For example, my children are willing to spend a lot of time on sports, but I won't give them pressure. I think the main difference may be the pressure parents put on their children. Some parents enroll their children in training classes in order to see the effect. For example, they will ask their children, since you have signed up for the training class, you must get good grades in the exam.

Do you have any good suggestions for these parents?

Li Wenhao: The advice I gave them was exactly what my father did. When I was thirteen or fourteen, my father once told me that we should sit down and talk. This conversation lasted about 20 minutes and left a deep impression on me.

At that time, the final exam for Italian schools was in June. If you fail, you can take the exam again in September. If you don't fail, you will have to fail. In order not to repeat the grade, I have to spend money to find a private teacher to tutor during the summer vacation.

My father told me in that conversation that he knew that my grades were not the best at school, and he also knew that I was very active at school and took part in many activities. He didn't ask me to do my best in my grades, as long as I could pass the exam. Because my family is not rich, my father told me that my family has done its best to send me to school. If I fail in the exam and my family can't afford to hire a teacher for me, he will make me responsible for my actions.

My conversation with my father is like a conversation between two adults. Since then, he has never said anything similar to me, but I always remember that he passed every exam. The last thing my father said to me was that if you want to be free, you must be responsible. For me, I gained independence and freedom, but I did so in a responsible way. I later gave this sentence to my children and the manager of my team.

Some people will say that it is more difficult for young people to start a business now than it was a decade or two ago because the entrepreneurial environment has changed. what do you think?

Li Wenhao: I have observed this in my industry. I think this rule also applies to other industries. Most companies are mediocre companies with average standards. A few companies are better, and only a few companies are excellent. For me, I never imitate others, I never do what is already in the market, and I always have my own new ideas, so I think that no matter what the market environment is, as long as you can find new things and new ideas, you will find more new opportunities.

In fact, I think there are many opportunities in the market now, even more than 10 or 20 years ago, because the market is global now, and your products and services can be sold not only in your own country, but also in other countries, and now the Internet has brought more possibilities.

What is your goal when you quit your job and start a business? Now some people think that starting a business is because you earn a lot of money. Do different goals have an impact on success?

Li Wenhao: My goal in starting a business is happiness and freedom. I think the profit in business should not be the ultimate goal of your business, but just a result.
