Since the establishment of 1989, the Eye Center of Tianjin Medical University has made remarkable achievements in ophthalmology medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and training. At present, it is a doctoral and master's degree program in ophthalmology, one of the 20 important ophthalmology centers in the world and a national demonstration base for rejuvenating the country through science and education. Optometry education in medical universities has a history of 12 years. Optometrics has established cooperative relations with the Department of Optometrics of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, School of Optometrics of Southeast University and School of Optometrics of Indiana State University. In recent years, Professor Yuan Jiaqin, Professor Zhao Kanxing and Professor Sun Huimin have been caring and helping.

Under the guidance, optometry education has developed vigorously. The newly established Institute of Ophthalmology has a building area of more than 5,000 square meters, with four teaching and research sections and two comprehensive laboratories. Carry out multi-level education such as doctoral and master's degree (ophthalmology), five-year undergraduate (clinical ophthalmology) and three-year higher vocational (optometry and glasses). There are 3 doctoral supervisors and 3 master supervisors 10. There are 9 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 lecturers and 8 teaching assistants. There are 5 doctors and 9 masters among the teachers. The echelon structure is reasonable, and the teaching staff fully embodies the advantages of high education and youthfulness. The establishment of the School of Ophthalmology and Optics of Tianjin Medical University will become the cradle for cultivating optometry professionals in northern China.
