Cao Zhigang's character story.
Fight against criminal activities

18 At 5 o'clock in the afternoon in May, 2004, just after work, maliandao East Street in Xuanwu District was crowded and bustling. A young man who looks like a migrant worker went to a fruit stall downstairs on the 3rd, grabbed a watermelon and ate it. At this time, three female students from a nearby middle school went to the fruit stand to buy popsicles after school. Suddenly, the young man threw down the half-eaten watermelon, picked up the watermelon knife and put it on the stall. He came forward to embrace one of the female students and put the knife rest around her neck. The female student was frightened and shouted for help to the watermelon vendor: "Auntie, help!" Ms. Li, a passing resident, saw it and shouted for help, and ran to the nearby police station to report the police. The police rushed to the scene at once.

The hostage taker is Wang, a migrant worker from Henan. Seeing the police and many people around him, Wang suddenly put a knife on the girl student's neck, then kicked the girl student to the ground and fled to the west. Seeing more and more people chasing, Wang, desperate, stabbed Zhao, a roadside resident, and stabbed a middle-aged woman with a child in her arms. After stabbing three people with a knife, the gangster Wang suddenly turned into the duty room of a carport in No.3 East Street, maliandao, locked the gate, and took the 17-year-old young woman Zhong, who was in charge of the car, as a hostage to confront the police.

The city bureau immediately set up a task force and sent negotiators to negotiate with the robber Wang. At this point, Cao Zhigang, who is carrying out the task of rescuing hostages, has been hidden in place. The experts of the negotiating team tried to influence, educate and persuade Wang, who was locked in the door, to ease the atmosphere at the scene, and to make him release the hostages and surrender himself. Cao Zhigang of the Commando quietly approached the carport to observe and understand the situation of the center. The carport covers an area of about four square meters, with doors and windows facing south. There is a single bed on the north side of the house, and a desk, TV and folding chair on the west side. The area where people can move is only about 1.5 square meters. The hostage is facing the door. Wang hid behind the hostage, and the watermelon knife in his hand was around the hostage's neck. The hostage is completely under his control.

Cao Zhigang hid about one meter away from the carport, ready to assault. Negotiations are still going on, and Wang does not mention any conditions for exchanging hostages, nor does he agree to contact his family. After more than an hour, Wang's mood gradually calmed down, and he accepted the cigarettes and drinks handed over by the negotiators. He offered to give him five minutes to consider whether to release the hostages and surrender. Just as things were moving in the right direction, a sudden gust of wind blew off a piece of asbestos tile on the carport and it fell to the ground with a bang. This unusual sound alarmed the king and made him excited again before he completely calmed down. He refused to continue the dialogue with the negotiators, put a watermelon on the hostage's neck and threatened to kill her.

At this point, the hostage Zhongmou felt that the gangster's hand around her neck seemed to be somewhat relaxed, and she wanted to take the opportunity to escape. When Wang saw this, he suddenly took the hostage and stabbed her in the neck with a knife. Hearing Zhong's scream, I immediately realized that the gangster had hurt the hostage. He jumped up, kicked the door open and saw Zhong, who had a neck injury, fall to the ground. At the moment when the gangster raised his knife and stabbed Zhong again, Cao Zhigang seized the opportunity, aimed the gun at the gangster and killed him. The injured hostage was successfully rescued.

During his career, Cao Zhigang witnessed numerous kidnapping scenes, and every time he successfully rescued the hostages with extraordinary courage, superb technology and a highly responsible attitude towards people's lives.

In 2009, Cao Zhigang led his comrades-in-arms to rescue the kidnapped five-month-old girl in time and return the child to her parents' arms safely. 20 10 Zou, a kidnapped teacher from a college in Beijing, was rescued; 20 1 1, the daughter of a counsellor of an embassy in China was kidnapped, and Cao Zhigang quickly attacked and successfully solved the case in only 3 hours. The hostages are safe and sound; Cao Zhigang successfully rescued an 8-year-old Chinese American who had just returned to China to visit relatives. The child's mother was so excited that she held Cao Zhigang's hand and repeatedly praised: "China police are the best!" .

Catch the gun and cure the explosion.

In 2008, the police found a clue: 27 kilograms of ammonium antimony explosives were hidden in Wu Mou, Fangshan District. Once so many explosives are lost, the consequences are unimaginable. In order to eliminate this major hidden danger in time, the police were led to Wu's home. At that time, Wu said nothing about explosives, and where the explosives were hidden became the key point to control the explosion at that time. Calm Wu's excited mood, at the same time, understand it with reason, move it with emotion, patiently persuade Wu, and gradually eliminate Wu's concerns. Finally, Wu finally confessed the hiding place of the explosives, and the police successfully seized all 27 kilograms of ammonium antimony explosives.

201June 19, Cao Zhigang received an order that Nie Mou, the main suspect in a triad-related case wanted by the Ministry of Public Security, was active in Beijing and should be arrested quickly. Due to the social repercussions of the case, the criminal suspect Nie has a complicated social relationship and a strong anti-investigation consciousness, and has repeatedly evaded the arrest of the local public security organs. In the face of such a cunning fugitive, how can we successfully capture it? Cao Zhigang gave up his rest, led the team members to repeatedly study the law of his activities in Beijing, spared no clues, followed the line, groped his way through the customs, and finally successfully captured him three months later.

During 2008-20 10, Cao Zhigang led his teammates to solve 486 cases of kidnapping, gun-related, explosion-related, and leadership-assigned cases10, arrested 327 criminal suspects (including 2 B-class fugitives from the Ministry of Public Security), destroyed 23 criminal gangs, successfully rescued 32 kidnapped hostages, and seized a batch of guns and bullets, which dealt a powerful blow.

study hard

Cao Zhigang knew that only by mastering the commanding heights of tactics and skills can we better crack down on crimes and serve the masses. There is no end to learning, and learning has no borders. Only by constantly learning and strengthening international exchanges can we effectively improve the skills and internationalization level of the police.

In 2004, Cao Zhigang was selected to attend a one-month national training course for arresting instructors organized by the Ministry of Public Security. In 2005, he attended the training course of French Panther Special Police, which made him have a new understanding and improvement in investigation tactics. In March, 2006, he participated in the anti-terrorism training course held in Paris, France, and broadened his international horizons through exchanges and discussions with police from 27 countries in the training course. Cao Zhigang participated in many training courses on kidnapping procedures, command, arrest and negotiation, which greatly improved the ability of organization and command and the level of handling unexpected cases, and became an outstanding talent in the criminal investigation field of the Municipal Bureau. At the same time, he deeply studied the characteristics of kidnapping cases in recent years, carefully studied the excellent practices and advanced experience of public security organs throughout the country in detecting such cases, and participated in the formulation of handling plans, procedures and norms in combination with work practice.

Due to his excellent professional skills, in 2003, Cao Zhigang was invited to teach practical arrest courses for police officers from eight units, including the Public Security Corps, Haidian Branch and Shijingshan Branch, and taught students in police schools as an instructor for many times, passing on his years of learning and valuable work experience to his comrades around him. He said that reducing crime, maintaining stability and ensuring people's living and working in peace and contentment are the greatest wishes of him and his comrades!

Intelligence breakthrough in hijacking case

The yard was quiet and a little depressed. Everyone stared at the crossbow and hijacked the case together. The suspect grabbed a young woman's throat with a crossbow on his shoulder and shouted at dozens of policemen. Cao Zhigang walked beside Zhang Xipeng and whispered, "Find a policeman to guard the door. The child has a key in his waist and may run away. " "Everyone's attention is on the hostages and the trigger that may be pulled at any time. Who will pay attention to the key? " Zhang Xipeng recalled. Finally, the man really wanted to drag the hostage into the car. Fortunately, the police ambushed at the gate in advance and the hostages were rescued. Ten years after this case, Zhang Xipeng still regrets it. He admires Cao Zhigang's vision.

Cao Zhigang "can't get sand in his eyes", it's the same everywhere. There are two computers, two telephones, a pen container with some pens in it, and nothing else. The office is not big, there is a single bed on the wall near the door, and the plaid sheets are not wrinkled. When you work overtime at night, this is home.

A day's work usually begins with cleaning the room. After serving as a soldier in the honor guard of the three armed forces for two years, Cao Zhigang's habit continues to this day. "If you don't sweep a house, why sweep the world?" He often talks with young policemen. Zhang Xipeng joined the police in 2000 and happened to be in a dormitory with Cao Zhigang. From criminal investigation to counter-terrorism, he has always been his right-hand man. Zhang Xipeng believes that Cao Zhigang's ability to judge the scene is related to his usual attention to details.

The case of child abduction is an example. After the police went out, the clue was only a note, which was left on the door of the child's house. "Your child is in my hand. Get the money ready quickly." "An acquaintance did it." Cao Zhigang quickly judged that Zhang Xipeng asked why, and Cao Zhigang analyzed it with notes. So many homes and notes were accurately placed in the victim's home, indicating that the suspect knew his home address. Use a note instead of a telephone because the suspect is afraid that his voice will be recognized. Later, the case was solved and the perpetrator was the victim's neighbor.

After 22 years as a policeman, his colleagues called him a "workaholic" behind his back. Zhang Xipeng said that the Cao team has "magic power". No matter what the topic is, a few words immediately turn to work. On Cao Zhigang's birthday in June 20 14, everyone bought a big cake. He took it to the duty room, ordered it a few times and gave it to everyone. No blessings or wishes. The little policemen didn't finish the cake. "Manager Cao" wiped her mouth. "Well, let's get to work."

Dealing with terrorism

The first interview was on the roof of a hotel. That's Cao Zhigang's office, and his work features make him infinitely close to the city.

After the "10.28 incident" in the capital on 20 13, in order to cope with the new situation of anti-terrorism, the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau set up an anti-terrorism corps, and Cao Zhigang, who worked hard for 17 and accumulated rich experience in detecting cases involving explosives and guns, was entrusted with a heavy responsibility. Originally, in criminal investigation, there were more than 600 police reports a year, but in the anti-terrorism post, although the number of people increased a little, the number of police reports received doubled.

The difference between the two positions

"It used to be a calendar, but now it is an important node." Cao Zhigang broke his fingers and counted New Year's Day, Spring Festival, two sessions, May Day ... and some major religious festivals. Because terrorists often choose some festivals to make trouble, when people enjoy their holidays, it is also the most tense time for Cao Zhigang and his team members.

In the past two years, there have been many terrorist incidents. No matter where something goes wrong, his nerves will be tense for a while. Different from ordinary crimes, terrorist activities are more planned and purposeful. "In the past, we were faced with one person or several people. Now we are faced with power. This is the difference. " Except for two landlines that ring at any time, the mobile phone is turned on 24 hours a day. The police said that whenever you make a phone call, as long as you ring twice, the Cao team will definitely answer it. In the third team, he can immediately tell who is in charge of what case and which step. It used to be "I don't know what will happen tomorrow", but now it is "I don't know what will happen next minute".

When the Beijing Counter-Terrorism Corps was established, the superior required that the emergencies in key prosperous areas in the whole city should be handled within 14 minutes. "The time left for us is measured in seconds."

He described himself as "walking on the knife edge every day", and the pressure came from his superiors as well as from his heart. "I used to do criminal investigation, catch a criminal and save a family. Now that I am doing anti-terrorism, the nouns that appear in my mind have become countries. " Sometimes, Cao Zhigang will call Liu Guochang in the middle of the night. Liu Guochang, deputy head of the Special Police Corps of Beijing Public Security Bureau, is both a policeman and a "brother of life and death".

"He is very thoughtful, sometimes he will talk for more than half an hour, and most of the content is still work." Liu Guochang said. Only once, Cao Zhigang told Liu Guochang that his greatest wish was to turn off his cell phone and find a place where no one was there for three or five days. "I don't want anything, just stay there, it's beautiful."

But everything is just "thinking". The last time I went out to play was after the 2008 Olympic Games. "Even if I want to go to Hebei (holiday) now, I am willing."

Unwilling to shoot

After waiting for "the next second is unknown", you have to face life and death.

Colleagues regard Cao Zhigang's "Four Guns" as a legend. In May 2004, maliandao took hostages; In August of the same year, Tongzhou hair salon took hostages; In June 2006, female college students were kidnapped. As a sniper, he shot calmly, saved the hostage in the blink of an eye, saved the next life, and ended another life.

The legend that the younger generations talked about, Cao Zhigang did not want to recall, "I am particularly reluctant to shoot." He raised his face and squeezed out this sentence. "Snipers are not professional killers, and no one wants to make that fatal blow unless they have to." He thought of a suspect who was killed. "It's not good to do something at a young age, only about 20 years old. Why hurt others? "

Zhang Xipeng remembers that after carrying out the task in 2004, the bureau specially arranged several psychological classes for him, but he stopped after only one visit. "I am a policeman, so don't do it without any psychological quality." There is still a slight change. Cao Zhigang doesn't smoke. After the mission, an old policeman handed me a cigarette. He smoked a few mouthfuls and then coughed. That's when he started smoking. He smokes more and more in recent years, and he has no clue when he meets a case. "One or two packs of cigarettes will soon be gone."

There are also unchangeable habits, but whenever the scene is possible, he doesn't want to end up with life. Around 2007, there was another kidnapping case. Cao Zhigang talked with the suspect about his family, responsibilities and life. Speaking of the seventh hour, the suspect finally let go of the hand holding the hostage, and he himself faced life and death.

The other side is a dozen armed gangs. The superior ordered the arrest, and more than 30 special police officers raided with guns. Liu Guochang also took part in this mission. At the scene, everyone walked lightly and gradually gave each other a forward gesture. When they got to the door first, Liu Guochang and Cao Zhigang looked at each other, kicked the door, and kicked together. Too hard, the quality of the door was too poor. Their legs immediately got stuck in the hole where they were kicked out.

"That's not an exercise. This is how brothers of life and death come. " Liu Guochang said. Fortunately, during the arrest, the gunshots did not ring.

Wake for grandma

Cao Zhigang's hometown is Changzhi, Shanxi. In May and July, he went home twice. In less than a year, he returned four tickets, setting a record since he became a policeman. Once his teacher died and once his grandmother died.

He grew up with his grandparents, and his grandchildren were the most favored. Since/kloc-joined the army at the age of 0/7, he has returned to his hometown at most once a year, once for one day, and it is not a reunion festival.

Grandma was ill in bed two years ago, and then she got confused. Finally, it was difficult for her family to recognize her. However, when I went home twice, my grandmother always called out the name of this grandson who had not seen me for years.

The day grandma died was July 2nd, near the Seventh Five-Year Plan. This is the heaviest task. The day before cremation, Cao Zhigang hurried home. He stayed up all night in front of grandma's coffin.

"I don't know how to express that feeling." He pointed to his mouth and made a clumsy gesture. "My heart is twisted with pain, but I have no chance to repay the person who is best to me." Cao Zhigang never thought it was a kind of "sacrifice". "Filial piety is unfilial, and I just didn't do it." But he also said that if he were not in this position, he might never understand that "it is difficult to have both loyalty and filial piety."

As for why he became a policeman, he recalled that when he was a child, his grandmother took him to the street and saw a policewoman holding down a thief in the market. All the onlookers are applauding. He told his grandmother, "I want to be a policeman and a hero when I grow up."

On the day of the wake, Cao Zhigang pondered over his experiences over the years. "I can't be filial to my grandmother. I only hope that my years have not disappointed the elderly. "
