First, the internship, internship time
According to the regulations of the Maritime Safety Administration, college graduates who have obtained the certificate of competency for class III seafarers and the certificate of competency for class III seafarers shall complete the internship and training on board for no less than 12 months.
Second, the internship and internship arrangements
1, driving school students
Under the supervision of the first mate, the students will be arranged by the boatswain to take part in the work of deck sailors for six months, of which 1 month will be spent with carpenters, and they will be familiar with post responsibilities, safety knowledge and various safety signs, seamen's craft, hull structure and deck maintenance. After 6 months, follow the chief officer on duty, learn the duties and requirements of the pilot on duty, learn how to manipulate the ship, avoid collision and use various navigation instruments for navigation and positioning, especially be familiar with the special navigation methods and precautions in complex navigation areas and narrow waterways, learn to evaluate the errors and reliability of various instruments in specific environments, and master steering skills; During the arrival and departure period, the first mate will arrange to be familiar with the anchoring operation or assist the second mate/third mate on the bridge according to the actual situation, and learn the arrival and departure preparation and the pilot's pick-up. During berthing, the first mate will arrange to study stowage, loading and unloading monitoring and binding with the second or third mate on duty. Usually, under the guidance of the second mate, assist in correcting charts and nautical books, maintain navigation AIDS, and learn route design and drug management; Under the guidance of the captain and pilot, learn the maintenance and operation of GMDSS equipment on board; Under the guidance of the third officer, participate in the management and maintenance of life-saving fire-fighting equipment and various signal equipment, and master the daily duties of the third officer.
2. Students majoring in ocean engineering
Under the supervision of the chief engineer, the students majoring in marine engineering will be arranged by the chief engineer to work in the engine room for six months, and they will be familiar with the processes of turning, welding and clamping of marine engineers, various mechanical equipment, post responsibilities, safety knowledge and various safety signs in the engine room. After half a year, the chief engineer arranged for engineers and electricians to study related businesses respectively. Follow the engineer, learn how to keep safe on duty, be familiar with the operation of main engine, auxiliary engine and related control systems, master the daily protection, inspection, maintenance and repair of marine propulsion devices, auxiliary systems, electrical devices and automation equipment, as well as the typical assembly and repair work on board, be familiar with the operation of various pump systems, participate in the discharge and injection of ballast water, the transfer of oil tanks, the start and stop of air compressors, the operation of oil separators, and the ignition and water replenishment of boilers. Follow the electrical engineer (if there is no electrical engineer on board, the chief engineer is responsible) to learn the maintenance and repair of various electrical equipment on board. The accumulated time of studying electrical engineer's business should be equivalent to the time of studying electrical engineer's related business, which will lay a good foundation for them to have the ability to independently maintain ship's electricity in their future work.
