TOEFL is developed by Education Testing Service Center (ETS) to test the ability of non-native English speakers to understand and use English in the campus environment. At present, more than 4,500 two-year and four-year colleges, vocational schools and related institutions around the world require students to provide TOEFL test scores when they enter school. TOEFL scores have become an important basis for many institutions to award scholarships to students. Since 1964 was held,17.5 million people have taken the exam.
In September 2005, ETS launched the new TOEFL test in the world, and it was implemented in China in September 2006. The new TOEFL test simulates the real language environment in North American campus, organically combines listening, speaking, reading and writing, and comprehensively examines candidates' language expression ability and communication ability. The new TOEFL test is conducted through the Internet (i.e. Intemet-BasedTest, abbreviated as iBT), taking the form of computer test, and the test time and the number of questions in each part are fixed.
