China Academy of Social Sciences is the highest academic institution and comprehensive research center for philosophy and social sciences research in China. Its predecessor was the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of China Academy of Sciences, which was established in 1955. Guo Moruo, then president of China Academy of Sciences, concurrently served as director of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences. 1977 On May 7th, with the approval of the central government, China Academy of Social Sciences was formally established on the basis of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of China Academy of Sciences.
