Some ideas and suggestions on the new BEC agreement

Slag 2006-02-23

A few days ago, I checked my grades, and I was really surprised, because I was expected to get only a B, with a total score of A, but I don't know the scores of each item yet. I think it is necessary to tell you some personal experiences and experiences, at least to let you know more about BEC. If there is anything wrong, you are also welcome to give suggestions to friends who have already taken the BEC exam and are preparing to take it. Some basic information can be found in official website (www. CambridgeESOL.org/BEC )。 This article mainly talks about my own experience.

1, my background

School: Guangzhou South China Agricultural University (non-English major)

CET-4: 87

CET-6: 74.5

Toe test: 970 points

I didn't take BEC 2 until I finished CET-6. In August, 2005, he attended Guangzhou New Oriental BEC2 Training Course, and took the exam in Jinan University on February 3, 2005.

2. Is 2.BEC useful?

Absolutely useful! BEC is completely different from CET-4 and CET-6, which is very applicable. After the exam, my English has really improved, especially in writing and speaking. Personally, I think the BEC exam is more comprehensive and comprehensive. It is also very helpful for job hunting, such as the oral part, which can also be used in future job interviews.

3. which level should I report?

BEC has three levels, which one should I apply for?

First of all, it is totally meaningless to exclude BEC 1.

Personally, I think that as long as I pass Band 4, I can take BEC Level 2. Direct. If you can completely surpass Band 6, you can sprint BEC 3. According to the teacher of New Oriental, the difficulty of BEC 2 is not much different from that of BEC 3, except that BEC 3 has more financial contents, which may be more difficult for students without this knowledge background. But if you don't want to take risks, you can take BEC 2 first if time permits. A reading teacher in New Oriental got a B in BEC No.3 Middle School.

4. About BEC and TOEIC

I think many friends want to know the difference between BEC and TOEIC. Let me talk about my own understanding.

BEC was developed by ESOL in Cambridge, England (the most famous product is IELTS), and TOEIC was developed by ETS in the United States (the most famous product is TOEFL). Therefore, many people think that enterprises in Commonwealth countries may recognize BEC, while enterprises in the United States may attach more importance to toeic. Actually, I don't know. However, from my experience in job hunting, both of them are useful and generally recognized.

As for the difficulty, I remember that Teacher Li Yongjun of New Oriental once said that TOEIC is at least two grades lower than BEC, which is true. BEC is a comprehensive test, oral English, listening, reading and writing; Toe only tests listening and reading, and they are all multiple-choice questions. According to my feeling, toeic and BEC are not at the same level at all. On February 3rd, 65438, I finished my BEC exam. On February 3rd, I went to take the TOEIC exam at 65438, 65438 and 065438. I didn't know anything about toeic before, and I only did four sets of toeic simulation questions in the week between. I was also very relaxed during the exam, and finally got 970 points (out of 990). But this is a bit unexpected.

5. Some experiences in reviewing BEC 2.

spoken language

Be sure to find the right partner. But my English level is similar to yours, and I live near you, so I can practice often. It is very important to practice with your partner often. At that time, my partner and I had a very tacit cooperation. For example, in the second part of oral English (mini-demonstration), we already know what the other person is going to ask before asking questions. The coordination of the third part (discussion) of spoken English is particularly important. Be sure to practice often.

In addition to practicing with your partner, solo training is also necessary. There are many ways to practice oral English. Some people say that retelling is better. I practice oral English with one word-memorization. I know all the oral materials of New Oriental by heart. At that time, I recited the information in the corridor at noon every day, and I recited it for two hours every day. When I recited it, I must read it aloud. That is, in just one month, all the oral materials have been memorized. Later, I was possessed, and I felt uncomfortable if I didn't carry it for a day. I really couldn't find anything to recite, so I chose some writing model essays to recite. After taking the BEC exam, it was still uncomfortable not to recite it for a day, so I took the third book of new concepts to recite it. I have memorized 20 articles, and now I have no motivation to recite them. I think it's because there is no pressure of exams, so there is no motivation.

According to my experience, at the beginning, it was difficult to recite, with many new words and messy contents. But when you recite more, you can achieve mastery. Later, I can talk about any topic for three minutes. Although the content is not necessarily rigorous, at least I have something to say.

writing

BEC's writing is completely different from CET-4 and CET-6. BEC's works are very practical and represent the real scenes in the works.

So at first, I will feel that I can't start. My main method is imitation. When you see a topic, write one yourself, then read the model essay, see what is different and make it clear why you want to write it like this, and then write another one after imitating the structure of the model essay. If you write more, you will form a certain routine.

As for writing templates, you can also recite some. Don't be afraid that the article is similar to others. BEC's composition is different from IELTS Band 4 and Band 6. BEC composition requires accuracy (including words, meaning, tone, etc. ) rather than personality. Therefore, it is appropriate and correct for candidates to have the same articles.

read

BEC reading is very special. Pairing questions and sentence fill-in-the-blank questions will be uncomfortable and a little difficult at first, but after more practice, you can basically get them all right. Don't be intimidated by filling in sentences. It's really difficult at first, but many skills can be used, but it's recommended in the end. Pay attention to the reading order, which is 4( 15 questions) →5( 12 questions) → 1(7 questions) →3(6 questions) →2(5 questions). This was put forward by the reading teacher of New Oriental, and arranged in descending order according to the number of topics in each part. I made a lot of mistakes in the front of the New Oriental 16 set of reading questions, but the more I went back, the less mistakes I made. After 10, I basically made three mistakes, and both sets were correct.

aural comprehension

The words you should recite must be recited, and the exercises you should do must be done. Make sure to practice for at least 30 minutes every day. It is worth noting that listening in the exam is more difficult than the exercises in New Oriental. New Oriental's listening practice is only fast, especially the last few tapes, which are really too fast. But in the real exam, although the speech speed is normal and understandable, it is difficult to understand. Especially in the second part, I think we should strengthen our business knowledge and deeply understand and distinguish some business concepts when preparing for the exam. The simulated listening questions of People's Posts and Telecommunications Publishing House are also relatively simple, so it is suggested that the listening part should be true.
